General Manager Written Announcements July 11, 2024 Special Board Meeting Agenda Packet - Page 30 of 41 Page 2 of 4 Attachment 1 Board Meeting of July 11, 2024 General Manager Written Announcements EMPLOYEE APPRECIATION DAY 1) Annual Employee Appreciation Celebration Scheduled for August 8, 2024 The Annual Employee Appreciation Event ("Camp Central San") will be held on Thursday, August 8 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in "Flushing Meadows" (the garden/lawn area next to the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility). Central San will host lunch from a choice of multiple food trucks and will provide dessert and cold drinks. The event will also include the Innovation Fair to showcase employee optimizations and innovations, and an employee car show. Board Members, current employees, temporary employees, summer students, and interns are all invited to attend. The event is not open to family members or retirees. ELECTION UPDATE 2) Election Nomination Period will run from July 15 — August 9 The November 5, 2024 election nomination period will open July 15, 2024 and remain open until August 9, 2024 at 5 p.m. Central San will have Districts 1, 4, and 5 on the ballot running for a four-year term, as well as District 3, which will be a limited two-year short term. Should you need more information please contact Secretary of the District Katie Young or visit the County's website at www.contracostavote.gov/elections PROJECT UPDATES 3) Public Bidding of Steam Renovations, Phase 1A District Project 100032 The Steam Renovations, Phase 1A project, will address necessary equipment replacements and long-term reliability of the heat exchangers and exhaust condensers in the Pump and Blower Building at the wastewater treatment plant. The scope of work includes the relocation of several pipelines, replacement of two waste steam heat exchangers, and tube replacement in the two aeration turbine exhaust condensers. This project will be advertised on July 16, 2024. Bids are scheduled to be opened on August 14, 2024. The Engineer's estimate is $2,000,000. More information will be presented when the Board is asked to award the construction contract on September 19, 2024. July 11, 2024 Special Board Meeting Agenda Packet - Page 31 of 41 Page 3 of 4 Written Announcements July 11, 2024 Page 2 of 3 4) Public Bidding Plant Control System 1/0 Replacement, Phase 3, Pump and Blower Building, DP 100057 The Plant Control System 1/0 (input/output) Replacement, Phase 3 - Pump and Blower Building will replace a 1000-hp variable frequency drive for Final Effluent Pump 3, three remote 1/0 control panels, aeration turbine vibration systems, rewire motor control center controls and install associated conduit and wire. This project is the third of a multiphase effort to replace obsolete control system hardware with modern equipment at the wastewater treatment plant. This project will be advertised on July 17 and July 24, 2024. Bids are scheduled to be opened on August 14, 2024. The Engineer's estimate is $1,200,000. More information will be presented when the Board is asked to award the construction contract on September 19, 2024. OUT-OF-STATE CONFERENCE ATTENDANCE 5) Staff Members to Attend the 39t" Annual Tri-State Seminar in Las Vegas, Nevada Lead Maintenance Crew Member Devin Stanovich, Utility Worker Troy Foulger, and Electrical Technician Mark Turner will be attending the 39t" Annual Tri-State Seminar in Las Vegas, Nevada, from August 5-8, 2024. The Tri-State Seminar provides a very diverse offering of technical sessions to attendees looking for continuing education. Their classes are taught by respected experts from the water and wastewater industry. Topics include: • Cathodic protection monitoring in water and wastewater • Leak detection • Keys to practical equipment and process troubleshooting • Protecting wastewater system motors from PWM systems • Cover your assets by developing a dynamic asset management program • Predictive maintenance for electric motors • Active shooter and workplace violence • Your ace in the hole - Supervisors are the key to safety leadership • Elevating safety culture: A journey towards world -class leadership • How new technology extends the life of aging water infrastructure Participation in this conference is included in the Fiscal Year 2024-25 Technical Training, Conference, and Meetings Budget. 6) David Wyatt to Attend the 39t" Annual North American Hazardous Materials Management Association (NAHMMA) National Conference in Austin, Texas Household Hazardous Waste Program Administrator David Wyatt will attend the NAHMMA national conference in Austin, Texas, from September 23-27, 2024. NAHMMA July 11, 2024 Special Board Meeting Agenda Packet - Page 32 of 41 Page 4 of 4 Written Announcements July 11, 2024 Page 3 of 3 is the premier association for professionals working to reduce and manage household hazardous waste (HHW). The organization is committed to pollution prevention, product stewardship, and the safe and effective handling of hazardous materials from households and small businesses. NAHMMA supports its members with exclusive training opportunities, relevant industry news, and access to a diverse and experienced nationwide network of people in hazardous waste management. Attendees participate in workshops, technical sessions, training, exhibitions, and regional facility tours.
