HomeMy WebLinkAbout05.d.1 Announcement~: 5.d~~~ Announcement for 03/04/2010 Board Meeting Community Meetinq (Open House) Regarding District Annexations 173 and 174 On Wednesday evening, March 3rd, staff conducted an "open house" meeting at the Danville Library for those in the community with an interest in the District's recent application to LAFCO for annexation of 197 properties in Alamo and Danville (District Annexations 173 and 174). Board Member Hockett attended the meeting and participated in the discussion with property owners. Letters providing information about the proposals and inviting community members to attend the meeting were sent to the 197 affected property owners and to about 900 others with property within 300 feet of a proposed annexation area. These property owners will receive LAFCO's letter of notice for its public hearing on the matter, tentatively scheduled for the April 21st LAFCO meeting. About twenty residents attended the meeting and the discussion was lively. The most asked question was: Is it more likely that property owners would be required to connect their property to public sewer if their property is annexed to the District. Staff explained that current Board policy is that property owners are not be required to connect to the District's system involuntarily, and that Contra Costa Environmental Health's requirements regarding connection when a septic system is failing is unaffected by the annexation status of the property. The second most asked question was: What will it cost to connect my property to the District's sewer? Staff provided estimates of the typical costs for public main sewer extensions and connection fees, and offered to provide property specific estimates on request and to assist owners who are interested in extending public sewer to their neighborhoods. :.~ ~;:.
