General Manager Written Announcements May 2, 2024 Regular Board Meeting Agenda Packet - Page 37 of 55 Page 2 of 4 Attachment 1 Board Meeting of May 2, 2024 General Manager Written Announcements ENERGY CONSUMPTION 1) First Quarter Update on Central San's Energy Usage Central San actively tracks greenhouse (GHG) emissions to optimize the use of energy at its facilities in the most cost-effective and environmentally responsible manner. The attached energy dashboard (Attachment 2) contains a breakdown of Central San's energy usage for the month of March 2024 along with a comparison of the energy used during the first quarter of the calendar year. The chart shows the cost breakdown of Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) and Marin Clean Energy (MCE) electricity. OUT -OF -COUNTRY CONFERENCE ATTENDANCE 2) Staff to Attend Smart Water Networks Forum (SWAN) in Vancouver, Canada from May 20 - 22, 2024 The SWAN 14th Annual Conference will be held in Vancouver, Canada from May 20 - 22, 2024. Central San is a member of SWAN who sponsor this event. SWAN is a membership -based non-profit that bring together water and wastewater utilities, solution providers, and proactive industry experts to advance the adoption of "smart" data -driven solutions for drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater networks worldwide. Greg Norby, Deputy General Manager, Engineering and Operations, and Nitin Goel, Operations Optimization Manager, are planning to attend interactive workshops and technical sessions related to wastewater strategic industry trends. In addition, they are also looking forward to networking with innovative wastewater utilities industry leaders. As Central San is a member of SWAN, one complimentary pass to the SWAN Annual Conference would be provided and the second registration is discounted. The conference attendance expense is similar to out of state conference costs and these expenses have been included in the FY 2023-24 Operations Department Deputy General Manager and Optimization budgets. 3) Staff to Attend International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC) 2024 Annual Conference in Calgary, Alberta, Canada from May 19-May 23, 2024 From May 19-23, 2024 (Sunday through Thursday), Secretary of the District Katie Young will attend the IIMC 2024 Annual Conference in Calgary. A variety of workshops will be provided that are vital to clerk training and development, including topics on Leadership, Communication, Technology, Records Management, Budget/Finance, SMART goals, Equity and Inclusion, and more. Along with the education, Ms. Young will be recognized for receiving her Certified Municipal Clerk (CIVIC) designation. The sessions will also help the Secretary of the District's office with best practices, new ideas, contacts, and tools gained from this conference will be put to good use at Central San. The cost of this conference is included in the Fiscal Year 2023-24 Technical Training, Conferences and Meetings Budget. OUT-OF-STATE CONFERENCE ATTENDANCE 4) Staff to Attend 2024 National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) National Pretreatment Workshop and Training in Pittsburgh, PA from May 15- May 17, 2024 From May 15-17, 2024 (Wednesday through Friday), Environmental Compliance Senior Inspector Jeremy Talarico will attend the 2024 NACWA National Pretreatment Workshop and Training in Pittsburgh, PA. The cost of this workshop and training is included in the Fiscal Year 2023-24 Pollution Prevention Budget. 5) Staff to Attend 2024 American Payroll Association (APA) Payroll Congress Convention in Nashville, TN from May 6 - May 10, 2024 From May 6-10, 2024 (Monday through Friday), Human Resources Analyst Kimberley Walker will attend the 2024 APA Payroll Congress Convention in Nashville, TN. The Payroll Congress Convention provides unparalleled educational and training opportunities for Payroll professionals at all levels. In addition to providing fundamental information regarding the latest legislative and regulatory changes, topics covered include best practices, internal controls, taxation, reporting, and many more topics that govern the Payroll process. The cost of this convention is included in the Fiscal Year 2023-24 Travel, Training, Conference (Out of State) budget.
