General Manager Written A nnouncements April 4, 2024 Special Board Meeting Agenda Packet - Page 82 of 97 Page 1 of 3 Board Meeting of April 4, 2024 General Manager Written Announcements STAFF RETIREMENTS 1) Russ Leavitt, Engineering Assistant III, to retire Russ Leavitt, Engineering Assistant III, will be retiring on March 29, 2024, after serving Central San for more than four decades. Prior to joining Central San, Mr. Leavitt worked for Earth Metrics, an environmental consulting firm that assisted Central San with the preparation of many environmental reports. He was hired in December of 1987 as a Planning Assistant in the Planning Division under Jim Kelly, who was the Division Manager at the time. Mr. Leavitt has been Central San’s expert on the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), budgeting, contractual assessment districts (CADs), annexations, and sewer financing. He’s been a tireless advocate for our customers and helped hundreds of them convert their homes from septic systems to Central San’s sewer system. Among the honors he’s received, he will always be most proud of the award from the Association of Environmental Professionals for Outstanding Environmental Document for the Pleasant Hill A-Line Relief Interceptor Environmental Impact Report (EIR). One of Mr. Leavitt’s passions has been to perpetuate the Talksics Toastmasters Club sponsored by Central San. He’s been involved in the club since he first started at Central San and has served in various leadership roles. While at Central San, he’s also enjoyed planning parties and being our very own Weird Al Yankovic, writing humorous tribute songs, to popular tunes, for retiring employees and holiday parties. He has always been a valued team member and will be missed for his upbeat attitude, his dependability, his historical knowledge of Central San, and his dedication to customer service. Thanks to Russ for his 36 years of service as a Central San employee. Best wishes and congratulations on his retirement. 2) Anthony Fernandez, Senior Plant Operator, to retire Senior Plant Operator Tony Fernandez will be retiring on March 28, 2024, after working at Central San for over 15 years. Tony joined Central San in March of 2009 as a Plant Operator I where he quickly became a vital part of the Plant Operations team. His Operator colleagues commend Tony for his loyalty, his friendship, his detail-oriented approach, and his calm dependability. Many thanks to Tony for his many years of dedicated service to Central San and congratulations on his retirement. Bailey’s Attendance at the Global Water Summit in London, England from April 15 - 18, 2024 The Global Water Summit will be held at the Sofitel London Heathrow Hotel from April 15th to 18th, 2024. Central San is a member of the Global Water Leaders who sponsor this event. Its members represent the gold standard of utility innovation and performance throughout the developed world’s water sector. The Global Water Summit is renowned for its high-level attendance, thought-leading content and unrivalled networking opportunities, and the gathering attracts more top water leaders and business executives than any other water event. Mr. Bailey will attend the Water Leaders meeting that will take place during the summit. He will also be a part of discussions on the desalination industry, eliminating polyfluoroalkyl substances in water, net zero water, new income streams from the circular economy, and the correlation between water and money investment. He will also attend break-out sessions on unlocking wastewater funds, maximizing innovation funding, desalination’s 5 big challenges, and major challenges facing the industry. Global Water Leaders paid for the conference registration and hotel stay costs and will reimburse the cost of the airfare once Mr. Bailey’s attendance has commenced. Incidentals will be minimal and covered by Central San, and these expenses have been included in the FY 2023-24 General Manager budget.
