BAILEY, GENERAL MANAGER SUBJECT: UPDATE ON THE REGIONAL PER -AND POLYFLUOROALKYL SUBSTANCES (PFAS) PHASE 11 STUDY Central San participated in a two-phase Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) study administered by Bay Area Clean Water Agencies (BACWA) and San Francisco Estuary Institute (SFEI) in response to State Water Board Order, WQ 2020-0015-DWQ. The study was approved by the Water Board in lieu of the statewide order for Region 2's Publicly Owned Treatment Works (POTWs), with the intent of providing complimentary data. The first phase was completed in 2020, and the results of the second phase were released in early 2024. Phase two sought to investigate the removal of total oxidizable precursors (TOP) from influent to effluent and to quantify residential and industrial sources of PFAS.
