BAILEY, GENERAL MANAGER SUBJECT: BRING A CHILD TO WORK DAY- POST EVENT OVERVIEW Bring a Child to Work Day took place on Thursday, April 13th at Central San from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Staff provided an overview at the June 6th Administration Committee meeting, and will present to the full Board today. Bring a Child to Work Day Presentation June 15, 2023 Regular Board Meeting Agenda Packet - Page 81 of 93 Page 2 of 6 1 2 Introduction Internationally recognized day that occurs the fourth Thursday in April every year (Central San adjusts this day to fit the needs of Central San and school schedules) J Started in US, and originally entitled "Take Your P*O Daughter to Work Day", its initial goal was to guide more girls and women into the workforce Later expanded to "Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day," as an event for children to go to work with their parents Event held at Central San since 2013 u years) At Central San, starting in 2015, recognized as "Bring A Child To Work Day" to be inclusive and encourage employees to bring any child (such as their children, nieces, nephews or unrelated underprivileged children) so they can observe a variety of jobs and learn about wastewater careers June 15, 2023 Regular Board Meeting Agenda Packet - Page 82 of 93 t Al 1 4 Event Details Event took place on Thursday, April 13th from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. • Central San hosted 121 children, and 196 total attendees including staff Largest host group since events inception Multi -Purpose Room, Board Room, Flushing Meadows, HOB -POD courtyard, POD old pond area, and POD parking lot were utilized for the different activities Utilized different venues in order to have attendees in different areas at different times, still keeping pandemic safety measures in mind Focus of the Event To create alearning experience Opportunity to educate kids about the world of wastewater Opportunity to enhance problem solving skills Career opportunities in the water sector Environmental stewardship Importance of balancing work and life Imo` _-•� June 15, 2023 Regular Board Meeting Agenda Packet - Page 83 of 93 3 Page 3 of 6 I 2 61 I Event Activities • Toot the Toilet Water Activities • CSOTruckVisits • Flushing Meadows Activities • Interactive Lab Station Plant Tour (10 years and older) Photo Booth Press -On Tattoo Station Scavenger Hunt (10 years and older) Wastewater Education Coloring Books Art and Crafts Board Room Bingo k, Page 4 of 6 d!
