(Handout) Public Comment_Letters of Support for Ms. Wedington (received during meeting, read into record) (Handout) Public Comments Received during meeting; From: Claire Carter read into the record To: Secretary of the District Subject: Please read this into your board meeting today,April 4,2023 at 2:00 pm and thank you. Date: April 4,2023 10:21:32 AM To: Central San Board From: Claire Carter, resident of Rossmoor, Walnut Creek (firsteclaire(cyahoo.com) Re: candidacy of Florence Wedington for a seat on your Board of Directors Date: April 3, 2023 I am writing to you in support of Florence Wedington's application to fill an empty seat on your board. My apologies to the Board if my offer to endorse her comes at this eleventh hour of your deliberations but I just today learned of her candidacy. I do not know Ms Wedington personally but I learned of her interest and broad experience in water conservation for our county partially from a presentation that took place here at Rossmoor, sponsored by our own governing body, the Golden Rain Foundation Board of Directors, in October of 2022. The topic was "The Future of Water in Central Contra Costa County" and the presenters were Central San and EBMUD. I have been a resident of Rossmoor for 17 years, and a long-time resident of this county before that. When I learned that Ms. Wedington is seeking the vacant seat on your Board which will represent Walnut Creek in the policy making of Central San, my first thought was that we, the citizens of this city, are extremely lucky to have as a candidate someone of her tested experience, broad knowledge, and passionate concerns for conservation of our water resources. Rossmoor management itself has come to feel acutely, and to continue to deliberate on, options for the serious problems we face with our alternating flood and drought cycles. This campus itself is a huge consumer of water as we have three large swimming pools, one smaller one, two golf courses, many acres of prized landscaping, and almost 10,000 residents. Funding the construction of a recycling facility inside our perimeter has been under discussion even though the cost of such construction and its operation would be very costly. In my own research efforts to become better informed on the issue of water scarcity, and recycling as one of the more practicable resources to consider, I think Ms. Wedington's impressive record in, and attention to, water recycling would provide a very important asset to Central San's present and future challenges. To close, I will say that water, and water conservation has not been, in the past, an area of particular importance to me. I just turn on my tap and rely on it to produce safe, clear, and tasty water, and I have felt far removed from the work of all those who labor to permit me to be so short- sighted. I have followed my own path of public service in an area with no association whatsoever to ecology or environmental activism. My opinion now is that our community, indeed our country, can ignore its water crisis only at our long-term peril. We are already seeing the consequences of that neglect in the present, not only for our future. I think offering Florence Wedington a seat on your Board is an opportunity that it would be a regrettable mistake not to act upon. Sincerely, Claire Carter From: Shirley Krohn To: Secretary of the District Subject: Re: Central San Letter of Support Date: April 4,2023 12:40:04 PM To Whom it May Concern: I would like the below support letter read into the record at today's Board Meeting. Dear Members of the Central San Board: I'm writing to support Florence Wedington for Central San's open board seat. Florence, without a doubt, is the most qualified candidate due to her education, experience and leadership. Choosing the right person for this seat will be difficult for the board, as the new board member will need to quickly come up to speed. Who better to do that than someone already working in your field? My neighbors and I love receiving your PIPE-LINE newspaper and we're so impressed with all the great work you do. Contra Costa County has been talking for a long time about the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion. While Central San only covers part of the county, you board members have the opportunity to lead through action. I ask you to continue your great work by making history and appointmenting the first African American to your board. As an 85 year old resident of Walnut Creek, I sure would love to see this in my lifetime! Thank you, Shirley Krohn, Senior Assemblymember of the California Senior Legislature, Member of the Contra Costa Advisory Council on Aging
