General Manager Written Announcements April 6, 2023 Regular Board Meeting Agenda Packet- Page 133 of 176 Page 2 of 3 Attachment 1 Board Meeting of April 6, 2023 General Manager Written Announcements CONFERENCE ATTENDANCE 1) California Water Environment Association Annual Conference in San Diego from April 18-21-2023 The California Water Environment Association's (CWEA) 89' Annual Conference will be held at the Town and Country Resort in San Diego from April 18 through April 21, 2023. A total of seventeen (17) employees will be attending from Central San, with seven (7) attending in an active role. Employees are attending for a variety of purposes: • To attend educational workshops and learning sessions, • To serve as Mentorship participants, • To help with registration and session facilitation, and • Availability to accept awards for which Central San is nominated In addition, this conference will provide the opportunity to connect and build relationships with other water and wastewater professions from around the state in a time where Central San is looking to collaborate with other agencies on innovative items which has been a priority. It is an opportunity to network on optimization which Central San prioritizes as a high priority. It also allows attendees to speak directly with exhibitors who offer the latest technologies and advances in the industry. 2) North American Society for Trenchless Technology (NASTT) 2023 No-Dig Show in Portland, Oregon — April 30 through May 3, 2023 Senior Engineer Sasha Mestetsky will attend the NASTT 2023 No-Dig Show from Sunday, April 30 through Wednesday, May 3, 2023 in Portland, Oregon. Mr. Mestetsky was awarded the NASTT's 2023 Conference Municipal and Public Utility Scholarship, which will pay for full registration and hotel accommodations. The No-Dig Show is the largest trenchless technology conference in North America. NASTT promotes the benefits of trenchless technology for public awareness through education, training and research, is a definitive resource for trenchless solutions to aging underground infrastructure and the applications of trenchless technologies, and links thousands of professionals and leaders working at the regional, national, and international levels with a network of 11 regional chapters throughout North America. Central San has a long history of using trenchless technology to effectively renovate its collection system to lessen construction impacts to our customers and public while saving costs. Staff attendance at this conference is included in the Fiscal Year 2022-2023 Technical Training, Conferences and Meetings budget. April 6, 2023 Regular Board Meeting Agenda Packet- Page 134 of 176 Page 3 of 3 Written Announcements April 6, 2023 Page 2 of 2 EMPLOYEE ACTIVITIES 3) Bring a Child to Work Day to be held on Thursday, April 13, 2023 A committee has been formed to plan Bring a Child to Work Day. The event will take place on Thursday, April 13 from 8 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. with most activities centered around the Multi-Purpose Room. The committee is working on different activities for the children to be educated about Central San's organization, and to have fun and spend working hours with their parents. There will be discussions about what their parent's roles are at Central San as related to the environment and their departments as a whole. The last time this event was held was April of 2019. We are pleased that this event is returning. We will have a debriefing session after the event to discuss the successes and provide more information about the activities of the day and how many participated. PROJECT UPDATES 4) Public Bidding of Pleasant Hill Sewer Renovations, Phase 2, District Project 5991 The Pleasant Hill Sewer Renovations, Phase 2 project is part of the ongoing Collection System Sewer Renovation Program. This project will renovate up to 8,700 feet of sewers, primarily 6-inch to 8-inch clay pipelines, within the City of Pleasant Hill. Construction activities will include open-trench, horizontal directional drilling, pilot tube guided boring, and cured-in-place pipe methods within public rights-of-way and some private easements. Most of the construction work will be focused within the Gregory Gardens subdivision. Community outreach is being performed via a public workshop scheduled for April 5, 2023. In addition, notification letters have been sent to the impacted residents and neighborhoods. Staff is coordinating with Contra Costa Water District (CCWD) and the City of Pleasant Hill and proposes to complete the sewer work after CCWD's project and prior to the city's paving project. This project will be advertised on April 10 and April 17, 2023, with a bid opening scheduled for April 27, 2023. The Engineer's estimate is $4.7 million.
