CENTRAL SAN February 7, 2023 TO: ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE FROM: RUSS LEAVITT, TALKSICS TOASTMASTERS VP OF MEMBERSHIP REVIEWED BY: AMANDA CAUBLE, TALKSICS TOASTMASTERS PRESIDENT SUBJECT: RECEIVE SEMI-ANNUAL UPDATE ON PARTICIPATION IN TALKSICS TOASTMASTERS CLUB The Board adopted Board Policy No. BP 032 - Reimbursement of Toastmasters Dues in August 2017, which removed the time limit that previously had been placed on dues reimbursement for participants in Talksics Toastmasters. This was meant to encourage more Central San employee participation in Toastmasters to improve public speaking and leadership skills. When the Administration Committee recommended the Board adoption of the policy, it also requested that staff provide semiannual updates to the Committee on Toastmaster membership levels. Between March 2020 and September 2022, the Club did not meet, as access to the office was limited and there was insufficient interest in meeting online. The Club resumed its meetings when employees were called back to work in the office, just in time to celebrate the Club's 35th anniversary. Since then, the Club has been meeting on its previous schedule of the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month, holidays permitting. Since the last report on February 18, 2020, Talksics Toastmasters has maintained its membership level. Three Central San employee members and two non-employee members did not renew their memberships, while five other Central San employees joined. There are now nine Central San employee members and no outside members. The minimum number of members is eight. The Club has had several visitors (both Central San employees and outsiders). They have been added to the Club mailing to be kept informed of future meeting dates. During this period, Central San employee members attended an average of 71 percent of the time. The most common reasons for Central San employee member absences were work or medical appointment conflicts.
