CLEAN WATER AGENCIES (BACWA)

Key Items:
Nutrients:
BACWA staff will meet with the 15 largest BACWA agencies to discuss planning efforts around nutrients.
The 15 largest agencies comprise 95- percent of the Publicly Owned Treatment Works (POTW) nutrients
load to the Bay. The goal is to better understand the nutrient planning landscape to help with the
negotiations for the third Watershed Permit. BACWA staff is developing a Nutrients FAQ for board
members to review. The BACWA nutrient strategy team will be meeting monthly beginning in January.
The Regional Nutrient Management Steering Committee will meet on December 9, 2022.
Pesticides Update:
Stephanie Hughes gave an update on the Bay Area Pollution Prevention Group (BAPPG) pesticides
regulatory contract. Stephanie summarized the BACWA Pesticide workgroup's proactive efforts around
pesticides (monitoring, advocating for POT -Ws, and engaging professionally and in the community).
Communications:
BACWA had a Communications Steering Committee kickoff, and held a follow-up meeting on November
29, 2022. The Committee is working to determine how to message regionally where it is both practical and
relevant.
