ISSUE
In accordance with Central San's Travel Policy, B P 008, the Board must approve Board Members' proposed
attendance at conferences in advance for each year.
BACKGROUND
At its meeting on November 20, 2008, the Board voted to amend the Travel Policy to state that Board Member
conference attendance will be approved by the Board on a yearly basis in advance to ensure transparency.
The attached list represents proposed attendances at various industry-related conferences throughout the
upcoming calendar year.
I n the event that a Board Member wishes to attend a conference other than as shown on Attachment 1,
separate Board approval will be required. The conference attendance being approved at this meeting is for
planning purposes only and does not represent a commitment that a Board Member will attend.
ALTERNATIVES/CONSIDERATIONS
The Board may deny the approval of the conference attendance or provide other direction to staff.
FINANCIAL IMPACTS
The amount of $40,000 was included in the Fiscal Year 2022-23 Operations and Maintenance Budget for
Board Member conference attendance. This amount was based on the estimate of a$2,000 cost per
attendance at in-state conferences and $3,000 per attendance at out-of-state conferences.

This matter was not reviewed by a Board Committee.
RECOMMENDED BOARD ACTION
Approve proposed conference attendance for Board Members for calendar year 2023 as shown on
Attachment 1 (for purposes of this action, attendance listed as "Maybe" will be considered approved by the
Board).
