General Manager Written Announcements June 16, 2022 Regular Board Meeting Agenda Packet- Page 743 of 771 Page 2 of 2 Attachment 1 Board Meeting of June 16, 2022 General Manager Written Announcements HUMAN RESOURCES 1) Central San Welcomes New Machinist Jonathan Kanq The Operations/Plant Maintenance Division welcomed its newest team member on June 6, Machinist Jonathan Kang. Jonathan comes to the District from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBL) where he worked for seven years as a machinist in the Advanced Light Source department in support of their scientific experiments. Prior to that, Jonathan worked as a machinist for Koffler Electric. Additionally, Jonathan has a bachelor's degree in physics from UC Berkeley. The Machine Shop crew is excited to have Jonathan working in the shop. REGULATORY COMPLIANCE 2) San Francisco Bay Regional Water Board unanimously adopts new Five-Year NPDES Permit for Central San Central San's new National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit was adopted unanimously by the San Francisco Bay Regional Water Board on June 8, 2022, after giving Central San many kudos for its great work. This concluded a strategic process that began in early 2021. The permit will become effective on August 1 , 2022, and expire on July 31, 2027. Central San staff is confident the intensive, collaborative efforts of staff, consultants from EOA, Inc., and the Regional Water Board led to the development of an appropriate permit, one that is both protective and practical, for Central San's operations. The internal permit renewal negotiation team, led by Environmental and Regulatory Compliance Division Manager Lori Schectel, included key contributions from a core group: Laboratory Administrator Mary Lou Esparza, Laboratory Supervisor Blake Brown, and Assistant Engineer Khang Nguyen. Additional acknowledgements go to collaborators from the Environmental Compliance and Regulatory Compliance groups, Laboratory, Planning Engineers, Plant Operations, Plant Maintenance, Capital Projects, the GIS Team, Resource Recovery Program Manager Melody LaBella, Collection System Operations, administrative staff, as well as the directors and District Counsel Kent Alm.
