Good afternoon board members my name is Loren Reimer and I am an employee here at Central San. I would like to make a quick simple comment about the recent mandate that the board members have imposed on Central San employees. First of all I would like to say that I understand you are voted in by the public and I realize that public perception is A top priority. With that being said, I would ask that you take the time to honestly ask yourself one simple question, that being.... Well the public actually care one way or the other if you simply allow the few employees Who are unvaccinated, whether it be for religious, medical or simply personal reasons to test weekly if that is something that they choose. I'm 51 years old I was born in Walnut Creek I've lived in Contra Costa County my entire life went to school here went to college here and have A large number of friends and family living in the district all of which agree with me. If an employees is vaccinated and or weekly tested, the safety of the public will not decrease or improve. Please give us as employees the option to choose which route we see best fit in our personal lives whether it be vaccination and/or weekly testing to stay employed here at the district. Thank you for your time. My speech/comment is not about an item on the Agenda. I wish to address the Board during the PUBLIC COMMENT item on the agenda. NO to Vaccine Mandates. I'm writing to express my utter disgust and disapproval of your recent vote to force the Covid Vaccine on your employees. For an illness with a 99% survival rate this does not follow the science and it's unreasonable and illogical to force employees to get a shot that's not been fully tested, has a death rate higher than all other vaccines combined, and a shot many don't want and feel they don't need. Shame on you, I hope thee board hears from the public and rethinks this ridiculous mandate. I'm asking you to instead be a strong example for other businesses/agencies and uphold the medical freedoms and bodily autonomy all Americans should possess without fear of being fired. Dear honorable board members, I think the vaccine mandate violates the free will of the individual. Choosing to be vaccinated should be done in an organic and natural fashion according to an individual's desire as opposed to a compulsory term of employment. Indeed, I chose to be vaccinated because of my own personal views. Thank you, CSO MCL My speech/comment is not about an item on the Agenda. Hello Board of Directors, My name is Justin Mercer and I am employee in the Maintenance Division at Central San. I wanted to speak to the Vaccine Mandate that is going into effect on Jan 1, 2022. While I chose to get vaccinated earlier this year, I want stand with my fellow coworkers who have chosen not to receive the vaccine. I find it difficult to understand why the District would choose to terminate employees who have been good, hard-working members of our team. Some of these individuals have be working for the District for a decade or more. They have always done what was asked of them, sometimes going above and beyond the task assigned. And now, because they choose not to inject their bodies, there is a real chance that they will lose their career. This is devastating. And while I wish everyone would choose to get the shot, respect the decision of those who do not. Please consider allowing testing without requiring an exemption for anyone who has made this decision. Thank you for your time. My speech/comment is not about an item on the Agenda. My name is Anthony Smith and I work in the maintenance department at the treatment plant. I am vaccinated but strongly disagree with the decision the board made on the enforcement of the vaccine mandate. It is not okay for the Board to decided what people should do medically in order to keep their employment. There needs to be better options, approved by the Board members, made available for those that do not believe in the vaccine that will allow them to stay employed here at the district. I find the decision the board members made to potentially lose a good size portion of a strong reliable work force over getting vaccinated a frightening decision. I have first hand experience with vaccinated people still getting sick and spreading it to others, so exactly what do you think mandating the vaccine is going to do? When we are exposed or have symptoms, vaccinated or not, we are still required to quarantine. Why can't there be an option for unvaccinated members to continually get tested, either provided by the District or the individuals not vaccinated? This practice has already been implemented here. I hope you can find the courage to make the difficult decisions you were elected to make and allow the people you should be fighting to keep and not fire, the opportunity to continue serving the district without having to get vaccinated. In my 15+ years working here at Central San I find it disturbing that the Board has taken socialist attitude towards taking away the rights and freedoms of their employees. It seems the "needs of the one" (Central SAN's board) outweighs the needs and freedoms of the many (employees). It is truly a sad day knowing this has become the norm. Many Veterans fought for our rights and freedoms and in a blink of an eye they have been tossed aside. Please do the right and honorable thing and lift this mandate of mandatory vaccinations. Has the district looked into the studies on adverse affects of the Covid- 19 vaccine? Are they aware of the studies that shows links to Guillain- Barre Syndrome, Myocarditis and pericarditis? Is the board aware that this vaccine has caused more adverse affects than any other vaccine combined. Dr. Bryan Ardis talks about other methods of medicine that can treat and cure patients from Covid-19. Why are we not exploring those options? I think member Hockett made a comment about wanting everyone to be safe. Well if your vaccinated aren't you safe from the unvaccinated and when does personal opinion supersede rights and choices? At the end of the day it comes down to my personal safety and that should be a decision that I and only I should have to make. It really comes down to this in the end...Those of us that are not vaccinated for Covid, and do not wish to be, have our own personal reasons that are none of your business. You are all knowingly violating the constitution of our country and should be absolutely ashamed of yourselves. In reality you are just saying your beliefs are superior to ours, that is all. You obviously believe the vaccine works, so what is there to be worried about if you are already vaccinated? When you recieve the flu shot are you scared of those without it? As said before you 5 are just politicians in a sewer district...nobody special. Hello and thank you for the opportunity to make a comment. I do not write this to rant or be combative, but rather with great humility and sincerity. I am a paraplegic. And as such I face many health challenges on a daily basis. Serious, potentially fatal health challenges. Health challenges that pose far greater a risk to me than covid-19 ever would. One of which is blood clotting. Statistically speaking, I am far greater risk of developing and dying from a blood clot than I am from covid 19. It has been widely documented that one of the potential risks of this vaccine is blood clotting. As we all know, the johnson and johnson vaccine was paused at one point due to this very reason. Now you may say to that, surely you could go to your dr for a medical exemption for a circumstance such as this, which was my initial thought as well. However, in speaking to my primary physician, who was just as saddened and appalled to tell me as I was to hear, under state and federal law, medical exemptions are ONLY available to those that have had a severe adverse or allergic reaction to the first dose of the vaccine. Essentially, his hands were tied by the federal government. He expressed his regret and apologized to me that this issue has become so politicized and wished me the best. So, essentially, medical exemptions do not exist, regardless of ones medical situation. While I may be the only paraplegic at the district, I can't imagine I am the only one who faces health challenges that may make them hesitant to dive head first into getting this experimental, non-proven, potentially fatal medicine. I don't expect any minds to be changed at this point, however I just wanted to express and make you aware of the precarious situation you are putting some of your employees in. I'm blown away by this and never imagined in my nearly 17 years at the district I would ever be in a position where I have to take a drug that could potentially kill me, or loose my job. I've always been very proud to work at the district. I've been here literally my entire adult life, again almost 17 years. I know nothing else. When people ask me where I work I've always took pride in telling them I work at central san. Today however I can not help to feel a bit ashamed. I think in your heart of hearts you know this is wrong. I can't speak for others, but I would have been more than willing to participate in weekly or twice weekly testing. You all had the power to make that option available but for whatever reason refused to do so. I lost my grandmother to covid so I do not down play the seriousness of it for those that are elderly, overweight and/or suffer from severe comorbidities. She was in her late 90's with dementia. But, for the vast majority of us, and being smart people you all know this, most of us are at very low risk of any serious complications from this virus. Last I checked the survival rate for people in my age and health bracket is 99+%. But yet here we are, under threat of termination, being forced to take a medicine that could potentially kill me. I pray you all have done some serious reflection and truly considered the action you are taking and the potential life lasting affects you are imposing on your employees. Again, thank you for the opportunity to express my concerns. My speech/comment is not about an item on the Agenda. I wish to address the Board during the PUBLIC COMMENT item on the agenda. Board members, I am asking you to reconsider your vaccination mandate on Central San employees. I am aware of the humility and strength of character it would require to change your mind this far into process. We are counting on you to not move forward with this mandate. My name is Carlos Curiel I work at CSO and I disagree with the mandate of the vaccination. A coworker of mine whose name will remain anonymous went ahead and gave me permission to say that he got the vaccination a few months ago and ended up catching the virus, becoming very ill. He was more sick and showed stronger symptoms than two coworkers who are unvaccinated so the fact that it makes the illness less severe isn't apparent to me. I don't understand why we're being forced to take something that isn't completely effective. At work they're testing the unvaccinated but not testing "the vaccinated". We're all aware that vaccinated individuals can still get sick and carry this "disease" so what are we really doing here? If that's the case, why aren't they getting tested and why are we being forced to take it if it doesn't work? I never thought that keeping my job and providing for my family as opposed injecting my body with a substance I don't agree with would be a decision I would have to make. In regards to this statements and many others, I'm asking the board to overturn this mandate. Thank you for your time. My speech/comment is not about an item on the Agenda. I've thinking about this for a while now and the thing that's hard to understand for me is the board has no idea of my family history my medical history any history about me medical or otherwise but they are making health decisions for me they have no idea what it's gonna do to me they don't even care just go get it done and I got a problem with that . Where do we draw the line six months from now they'll be another strain of the virus oh and will have to go get a shot for that six months from now from then will have to go get two more booster shots and it's never ending cycle how how much stuff are you willing to put in your bodies before you had enough how much of this crap are you gonna put in your body before you finally hurt you and Workmen's Comp. isn't going to help you the board is forcing you to take this into your body well they call it a choice either either you're fired or quit or you take the shot so you go and take the shot and it hurt you and then Workmen's Comp. will come back and say you did that to yourself that was your choice do we even know if Workmen's Comp. is going to even help us if something bad happens we don't even know I'll be how does the boards word which it doesn't mean anything this is a joke hanging someone's job over their head tell him to go get a shot or basically lose your way of life that's all I got to say about this My speech/comment is not about an item on the Agenda. My name is Kenneth Rosenstiel and I work in the mechanical maintenance department of plant operations. I have made the personal choice of receiving the COVID 19 vaccine. I do not agree that this should be mandated to my coworkers and peers. People should be able to decide what is best for their own health. Working at Central Contra Costa Sanitary District I have felt that everyone has the ability to voice their opinion on what is right for the collective group. This is a good way to display to employees that we are part of something collaborative. There has to be a better option for my co workers that don't want to get vaccinated. I have concerns with implementing this mandate, I stand to lose many of my highly qualified co workers. I owned my own business for 7 years and know how hard it is to find quality employees like CCCSD currently has. Please do not terminate the employees that have accepted me into the Central San family. Thank you for your time. My speech/comment is not about an item on the Agenda. Members of the board: My name is Brian Walters and I have been employed at the district for over 10 years in the Maintenance Department. I struggle to write this message for someone else to read while we attend the Board Meeting virtually. Throughout the pandemic and shift to a "virtual world", we've lost empathy and understanding along the way. I am fully vaccinated, and fully support others in getting the vaccine to protect their health. However, I wholeheartedly do not agree with the board's new policy to mandate vaccination against COVID-19 as a condition of employment. In general, I am grateful for Central San's values. We value our employees, respect each other, work as a team, promote a passionate and empowered workforce, inspire dedication, and promote kindness, fairness, and trust. This decision to get vaccinated or risk termination contradicts the values that have made Central San a great place to work. I view my coworkers as part of my family and fully respect their choice to get vaccinated or not. The thought of losing dedicated, valuable, talented individuals to this type of mandate is demoralizing and demotivating. I ask you to reconsider the terms of this mandate and search for a compromise. Good employees are not expendable assets and contribute to Central San's award-winning reputation. There are ways to keep our workforce safe while still supporting and encouraging each person's freedom of choice and beliefs. Please reconsider this mandate for the long-term success of Central San. Thank you for your time and listening to what others and myself have to say. Brian Walters My speech/comment is not about an item on the Agenda. I believe it is taking away what Makes the United States a great country, Freedom and the ability for Americans to make there own decisions and choices. At this point I don't think it's about the COVID shot it's about taking away the ability for people to make there own choices and decisions which is what this great country was founded on. We are going to lose some Good employees over this mandate which is senseless. We all have been working in the field around the public and around other co workers since this has pandemic has started and we were all fine before vaccine and were all fine now. Dear Board or Directors Please reconsider the vaccine mandates you currently have in place. There are dedicated, loyal employees at the district who will be negatively impacted by this decision. A decision you, the board, have the power to overturn. I can't help but feel as though the humanity is being stripped from Central San's employees and they are being treated as if they are animals, with no say as to what goes into their own body. The human rights of bodily autonomy are being violated with this vaccine mandate. This is not right. This virus is not as deadly as it has been made out to be. The average death, in a seven-day time frame, in Contra Costa County of a person with COVID is one. Alameda County, one. San Francisco County, one. Sacramento County, one. These numbers do not warrant a mandate. Have you considered the consequences this mandate could have on Central San employees? What about their spouses? What about their children? What about the children who rely on a parent's income, received by them, in the form of child support? Have these factors been considered? Who then will support these children? Job loss is a major contributing factor to the mental decline of an individual which can and does lead to suicide or substance abuse. The notion to not offer testing and only the vaccine enables this destructive behavior. This could all be avoided with the simple and sensible option of allowing employees weekly testing. President Biden gives the option for weekly testing in the vaccine rules. So why is the board not? Also, these are rules, not laws. Children's lives will be uprooted with the demand you've given to get vaccinated or lose your job. I have children. I have two of them. What will their future be like without the support my husband provides to our family? Please, imagine the impact, not only on my children, but all employees' children should the option of weekly testing not be offered. Furthermore, if COVID was such a threat, why is it that my husband, as well as all employees who were working on site, were not offered weekly testing in the whole past 18 months? He came to work, despite the pandemic, and did his job. Does that not mean anything to the board? Do these employees not matter? The answer is they do matter. Their beliefs matter. Their choices matter. Their decisions matter. Just as the choices you make for yourself matter. Please, don't take that away from them. Please offer testing. Not all employees practice a religion and I can imagine the stress and anxiety they may be going through in fear of losing their job. Please, offer testing. I understand the burden OSHA has placed on employers, asking they recommend or enforce medical procedures, even if that employer has no expertise to recommend. This is not right to the employer or to the employee. The union is a brotherhood, a sisterhood of working individuals who contribute to society and ensure the public is provided with the ongoing services of wastewater management the district provides. Service that did not stop during the pandemic due to Central San employees. Don't single members out. Don't discriminate. Don't tell them they don't matter. Make testing an option. I don't agree with taking away the employees rights and decisions for him or her family's. I believe it is everyone's rights to decide whether they should be vaccinated or not! I do believe you are making a lot of employees decide whether they are going to continue working for the district. I think the district has great, very knowledgeable employees. I would hate to see anyone leave due to a mandate. You are forcing your employees that have worked thru this entire pandemic to decide between work and family health.
