Written Public Comment Public Comments (Handout) 10-11-21 10/11/2021 Members of the Board, When covid first appeared CSO employees could have rung their hands in fear and stayed home. Instead, they put their boots on and came to work. CSO NEVER closed. Employees and their families willingly delt with various schedule changes and other inconveniences in order to help CSO function effectively during this time. My husband had the only car on the road when driving in to work. As a family, we had concerns for his safety, but we respected the fact that he didn't want to let his employer or fellow employees down. Covid protocols such as masking and social distancing were put in place which have been completely successful. CSO has had NO employee-to-employee transmission, ZERO. Now 19 months into this, when the covid numbers are WAY down, our loyalty is repaid by this proposal to override a personal medical and spiritual decision. As of last week, in Contra Costa County with a population of 1.2 million there were 81 people in the hospital WITH covid. They were not necessarily in the hospital BECAUSE of covid. Hospitals routinely check patients for covid when admitting them for any reason: a broken leg, etc. People that do not get these shots are not a threat to the health and safety of others. It is widely known by the scientific community, and the general public, that people who receive these shots can still get and spread covid. What is not known, and is in fact unknowable at this time, are the long-term effects of these shots. According to the CCCSD Mission Statement your stated values include: • Value customers and employees • Respect each other • Work as a team • Work effectively and efficiently • Celebrate our successes and learn from our challenges Please do not negatively impact this tradition of teamwork at CSO by bullying loyal employees into a lose-lose position. As employees and family members of employees, we have had your back. It's your turn to have ours. Respectfully and prayerfully, Mary J. Silva, wife of Edward J. Silva Jr., Maintenance Supervisor, CSO
