BAILEY, GENERAL MANAGER SUBJECT: VIRTUAL EXTERNSHIP PROGRAMAND PURDUE UNIVERSITY INFORMATION SESSION Central San is expanding its efforts to enhance workforce development and perform outreach to college students and recent graduates by hosting a week-long Virtual Externship Program this spring. The cohort- style learning experience is designed as an insider look at multiple career paths in the wastewater industry and an opportunity to make connections, not only with established staff at Central San but also with fellow externs. The program will be a five-day event from March 29 to April 2, held online from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every day, including a one-hour lunch break. Each of the five sessions will be an engaging and interactive introduction to Central San's range of careers. Staff will take the externs through a day in their lives, explain how they came to Central San, and talk about their current projects and what they enjoy about their jobs. Thus far, 38 students and recent graduates of various majors, academic standings, and schools have requested to join the program. More information can be found at https://www.centralsan.org/post/externship-program. In order to advertise the program to as many potential participants as possible, staff has been reaching out to various colleges and universities. Purdue University suggested that Central San host a virtual information session through their Center for Career Opportunities. This thirty-minute session will introduce Central San, preview the externship program, include live testimonials from our current interns, and conclude with a question and answer period. Should other schools request a similar information session, staff will be happy to oblige. No action is requested from the Committee. Staff will be available at the meeting to answer any questions.
