Bailey General Manager ISSUE In accordance with Board Policy No. BP 008 - Travel Expense Reimbursement, the Board must approve Boarc Members' proposed attendance at conferences in advance for each year. BACKGROUND In 2008, the Board voted to amend the Travel Expense Reimbursement Policy to require that Board Member conference attendance be approved by the Board on a yearly basis in advance to ensure transparency. The attached list represents proposed Board Member attendance at various industry-related conferences throughout the upcoming calendar year. I n the event that a Board Member wishes to attend a conference other than as shown on Attachment 1, separate Board approval will be required. The conference attendance being approved at this meeting is for planning purposes only and does not represent a commitment that a Board Member will attend. ALTERNATIVES/CONSIDERATIONS The Board may deny approval of the conference attendance or provide other direction to staff. FINANCIAL IMPACTS The amount of$40,000 was included in the Fiscal Year 2020-21 Operations and Maintenance Budget for Board Member conference attendance. This amount was based on the estimate of a$2,000 cost per attendance at in-state conferences and $3,000 per attendance at out-of-state conferences. RECOMMENDED BOARD ACTION Approve proposed conference attendance for Board Members for calendar year 2021 as shown on Attachment 1 (for purposes of this action, attendance listed as "Maybe" will be considered approved by the Board).
