BAILEY, GENERAL MANAGER SUBJECT: RECEIVE UPDATE REGARDING THE USE OF RENEWABLE DIESEL IN COLLECTION SYSTEM OPERATIONS (CSO) VEHICLES The CSO Division provided information regarding the use of renewable diesel to the Real Estate, Environmental and Planning Committee at the September 16, 2019 meeting. Staff will provide an update at this meeting on the status of renewable diesel use for CSO vehicles and answer any questions. Renewable diesel was discussed with the Real Estate and Environmental Planning (BEEP) Committee on September 16, 2019. Renewable diesel would be included as an option in the new fuel contract when bid. z 1 October 12, 2020 REEP Committee Meeting Agenda Packet- Page 28 of 100 Page 3 of 4 RENEWABLE DIESEL BENEFITS Reduces Green House Gas emissions by 90% compared to fossil diesel. Extends the time between Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) regenerations. Reduces CSO Crew exposure to diesel particulates. Reduces fuel filter replacements. New fuel contract in place by end of November. CSO will pilot renewable diesel in the fleet's heavy-duty trucks depending on cost difference.
