•8/19/20 Contra Costa County began taking applications for
waivers to allow in-person instruction at private/public schools
•8/26/20 Contra Costa County announces data shows a leveling
of COVID-19 cases. Tests returning positive remained steady or fell
slightly compared to June and July numbers.
•8/26/20 Contra Costa County announces additional businesses
to open, including that hair salons and barber shops may operate
indoors with new safety guidelines in place. Gyms may begin
operating outdoors.

Response
•8/26/20 Governor announces plan to more than double State's
testing capacity and reduce turnaround time. New contracts will
allow an additional 150,000 COVID-19 tests per day with a 24- to
48-hour turnaround time. The new lab facility will being processing
on November 1 , 2020 and run full capacity by March 1 , 2021 .
•8/26/20 Governor unveils plan for anticipated long-term living
with COVID-19. The plan imposes risk-based criteria on tightening
and loosening activities. Counties will now fall within a color-based
chart.

•9/1/20 23 Contra Costa County schools apply for waiver to open
for in-person instruction. Currently only private schools have
applied for the waiver.
