BP 004 - INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT SUBMITTED BY: INITIATING DEPARTMENT: MELODY LABELLA, RESOURCE RECOVERY ENGINEERING AND TECHNICAL SERVICES- PROGRAM MANAGER PDS-RESOURCE RECOVERY REVIEWED BY: JEAN-MARC PETIT, DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNICAL SERVICES ISSUE Revisions to Board of Directors (Board) policies must be approved by Central San's Board. BACKGROUND The Board's Integrated Pest Management (I PM) Policy was originally adopted on September 15, 2011, to reflect Central San's desire to take a comprehensive approach to pest management within Central San's operation. The policy is up for its biennial review and staff would like to propose revisions to update and clarify the policy, while maintaining its original intent. Attachment 1 is the current version of Central San's I PM policy. Attachment 2 is staff's proposed red-lined revisions. Attachment 3 is staff's new proposed version of the policy. ALTERNATIVES/CONSIDERATIONS The Board could elect to leave the existing I PM policy as is. FINANCIAL IMPACTS Staff's proposed revisions to the Board's I PM result in no financial impacts, as the scope and intent remain the same. COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION This item was reviewed at the J my 21, 2020, Administration Committee meeting. The Committee supported/did not support staff's recommended changes to the I PM Policy. BOARD POLICY INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT PURPOSE To establish a policy to promote the combined use of physical, cultural, biological, and chemical control methods to effectively manage pests with minimal risk to humans and the environment. POLICY The goal of this policy is to minimize risks to public health and the environment as a result of pest control activities conducted by CCCSD staff and contractors. In support of the District's mission to protect public health and the environment, the District shall manage pests on District properties and facilities using Integrated Pest Management (IPM) principles and techniques. IPM is a science-based strategy and decision-making process that provides effective, long-term pest control while emphasizing pest prevention and the use of non-chemical pest management practices.
