Freitas 9. M graves ames elly, General Manager ISSUE: Derived from the District salary tables, employee salaries have been traditionally expressed in monthly amounts in position papers to the Board. Staff has recently been asked to present a position paper for Board consideration changing the practice of expressing salaries from a monthly basis to annually. In addition, staff has been asked to include the value of benefits when expressing an employee's salary. RECOMMENDATION: Consider directing staff to express employee salaries and benefits in annual amounts in Board position papers. FINANCIAL IMPACTS: None. ALTERNATIVES /CONSIDERATIONS: Maintain the status quo or expand the use of annual salaries and benefits in public documents. BACKGROUND: At the Board meeting of August 5, 2010, Member Lucey asked staff to prepare a position paper mandating that employee salaries be expressed in annual amounts. Also, Board Member Nejedly asked staff to include the value of benefits whenever salary is referenced in a position paper. RECOMMENDED BOARD ACTION: Consider directing staff to express employee salaries and benefits in annual amounts in Board position papers.
