CENTRAL SAN November 26, 2019 TO: FINANCE COMMITTEE FROM: TEJI O'MALLEY HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGER REVIEWED BY: ANN SASAKI, DEPUTY GENERAL MANAGER ROGER S. BAILEY, GENERAL MANAGER SUBJECT: RECEIVE INFORMATION ON IDENTITYTHEFT BENEFIT FOR DISTRICT EMPLOYEES At the October 22, 2019 Finance Committee meeting, staff was asked to provide information on the identity theft coverage the District provides for all employees as part of their benefits package. The District provides employees identity fraud/theft services through the Employee Assistance Program with MHN as well as through the District's membership in California Sanitation Risk Management Authority (CSRMA). Through MHN, employees and their eligible dependents who suspect they may be a victim of identity theft or fraud are entitled to a 30-minute consultation with a certified consumer credit counselor. The counselor will assess the situation, develop and assist in the implementation of an action plan to resolve the issue(s). If there is a potential of identity theft, the employee will receive an identity theft recovery packet and be connected to an identity recovery specialist. The specialist will provide information about how to place fraud alerts, close affected accounts, freeze credit, file police reports and any other necessary activities to resolve fraud. MHN also provides information on lowering the risk of being victimized and preventing identity theft. Through CSRMA, Identity Fraud Expense Reimbursement Coverage is available to all employees. Coverage is limited to $25,000 and covers lost time from work to deal with the fraud up to $1,000 per week for five weeks, travel expenses up to $1,000 per week for five weeks, attorneys fees (with pre- approval) and other costs and fees required to resolve the issue and replace government issued identification including passports, drivers' licenses, and social security cards. An article on the above identify fraud/theft employee benefit will be included in the November issue of the Lateral Connection. Staff will be available at the Committee meeting to answer any questions.
