Pollution Prevention Week occurs every year starting on the third Monday in September. This event is
recognized nationally and is used to encourage pollution prevention awareness. Central San has actively
supported Pollution Prevention Week since it started in California in 1993, including adoption of a
Resolution proclaiming Pollution Prevention Week in Central San's service area. Central San's Pollution
Prevention Week activities include:
• Pollution Prevention Week Resolution highlighting Central San's ongoing commitment to pollution
prevention

• Annual Awards Program

2019, Mr. Markison visited Central
San's Residential Recycled Water Fill 1
Station 232 times. Over the past

Mary Watson and her craft group have keen eyes for potential;they use recycled
materials to create an array of decorative items. Mary sources her materials from
many places, including discarded pallets from hardware stores,old fences,and the
Reuse Room at Central San's Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility!

Contra Costa Newspapers practices pollution prevention in various
ways throughout their process. They switched their plate process
from a wet chemical to a digital process,switched all their outdoor

PG&E Applied Technology Services practices pollution
prevention by collecting and off-hauling federally regulated
high-strength wastewater. They eliminated all discharges to

the sanitary sewer from their chemistry lab by removing
and capping all sinks. PG&E also removed all mercury-
bearing materials from their chemistry lab.
