HomeMy WebLinkAbout09. (Handout) Staff response to request from Member Causey Donna Anderson item , . From: Emily Barnett (Handout) Sent: 08 13, 2019 12:15 PM To: Paul Causey Cc: Roger Bailey; Katie Young Subject: RE:Agenda Item 9, Outreach Member Causey, In response to your email request for budget figures for our student educational outreach programs, that information is provided below. For the benefit of the other Board Members who are being copied on this email,. I wanted to provide some context for educational programming that I look forward to sharing as part of my presentation at Thursday's Board meeting. Our education programming centers around several goals: 1. Invest in student education now, so long-term we can positively impact student/customer understanding of pollution prevention and reduce impacts on our infrastructure 2. Support our vision, mission, and values 3. Fulfill our NPDES permit provision to conduct school outreach programs 4. Create a pipeline of up-and-coming water sector professionals Most of Central San's programs have been in existence for 15 to 20+ years. The exception to that is our new Pipe Protectors program. All of our older programs require extensive overhauling to meet new federal/state standards. For budgeting information, each program has some expenses that cross pollenate. Meaning we have dollars figured for updating multiple education programs, and therefore they are not directly tied to one program, but all programs. Secondly, expenses like printing fall under our printing agreement and not with a specific education program. All district printing is in one agreement, not separated by Division (or further broken out by accounts within divisions), which makes the accounting far more efficient. Benefits Multiple Education Programs: Central San Teacher Training Academy $15,000 Delta Discovery Voyage $40,000 Federal/State Standards Curriculum Realignment$10,000 Pilot Education Development (Kitchen Sewer Science, Sewer Science 2.0, future grade-specific Pipe Protectors & Sewer Science) $15,000 Individual Education Programs (implemented by Sustainable Contra Costa): Sewer Science* $35,000 Water Wizards* $20,000 Pipe Protectors* $20,000 *This agreement is actively in negotiations, figures may change I hope this information is helpful.
