General Manager Written Announcements August 15, 2019 Regular Board Meeting Agenda Packet- Page 144 of 153 Page 2 of 2 ATTACHMENT 1 Board Meeting of August 15, 2019 General Manager Written Announcements PROJECT UPDATE 1) Public Bidding for Pump Station Upgrades, Phase 1, District Project 8436 The Pump Station Upgrades, Phase 1, District Project 8436 (Project) will remove and replace major electrical, mechanical, and controls equipment at the Moraga, Orinda Crossroads, and Flush Kleen Pump Stations. The Project is aimed to address electrical safety, equipment and system reliability, improve the wet weather pumping performance, and emergency power systems. Several items, such as replacement of the dry weather pumps at Moraga and Orinda Pump Stations, have been included as additive bid items to determine the costs of improved resiliency. This Project will be advertised on August 26 and September 3, 2019 with a bid opening scheduled for October 7, 2019. The Engineer's estimate for construction is $24 million, which includes the additive bid items. More information will be presented when the Board is asked to approve the construction contract, scheduled for November 7, 2019. NATURAL GAS PURCHASE 2) Natural Gas Agreement to Purchase Central San uses approximately 430,000 decatherms of natural gas (NG) annually for the Treatment Plant's Cogeneration System and as backup fuel to landfill gas in the multiple- hearth furnaces and auxiliary steam boilers. The Board of Directors periodically authorizes the General Manager to pre-purchases NG for those purposes to allow staff the flexibility to respond to market changes in NG pricing. On June 20, 2019 the Board authorized the General Manager to agree to pre-purchase NG through 2021 with a $4.00 per MMBtu limit. Staff has agreed to purchase 333 MMBtu per day at $2.99 per MMBtu for 2020 and 333 MMBtu per day at $3.13 per MMBtu for 2021 . August 15, 2019 Regular Board Meeting Agenda Packet- Page 145 of 153
