AWARD
4) Central San Recognized with Utility of the Future Today Distinction
Central San has been recognized with the Utility of the Future Today distinction. This is
through a joint recognition program established by the National Association of Clean
Water Agencies (NACWA), the Water Environment Foundation (WEF), the Water
Research Foundation (WRF), and WateReuse, with input from the Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA). The aim of the program is to promote and enable the
emergence of the Utility of the Future business model for the entire water sector by
recognizing achievements and encouraging peer-to-peer learning among member
utilities. More than 110 utilities have been recognized since the program's launch in 2016,
and this is Central San's first year applying. Management Analyst, Christina Gee, who
coordinated and assembled the application, will attend the Recognition Ceremony at the
Water Environment Federation's Technical Exhibition and Conference (WEFTEC) on
September 24. Recognition is granted for a three-year period, after which a utility can
apply to renew their recognition by demonstrating advancements in one of the activity
areas. Central San was awarded the distinction this year for its work in Partnering and
Engagement.
