CENTRALSAN After hearing more information on the issue, support intensifies say that many common household wipes, including personal wipes, are often labeled "flushable" However, this can be misleading because many of these wipes contain synthetic materials that do not break down in the average sewer system in the same way that toilet paper does and can cause sewage overflows. In Central San's District alone, these wipes have cost the agency a substantial amount of money in pipe and pump cleaning,to pull wipes out of the sewer system each year. This bill would require that any wipes that do not effectively break down and that contain synthetic materials be labeled "non-flushable" so that consumers can have a better understanding of what can and cannot be safely flushed down the toilet.
