EXCELLENCE IN WATER, WASTEWATER AND RECYCLED WATER
RESEARCH AWARD:
• MADELI NE NEYPES, SEVENTH GRADER AT NORTHCREEK
ACADEMY IN WALNUT CREEK - SECOND PLACE, JUNIOR DIVISION:
"FERROFLUIDS: A MAGNETIC SOLUTION TO CLEANUP OIL
SPILLS"
The 2019 Contra Costa County Science and Engineering Fair took place March 14-16, 2019 at Los
Medanos College in Pittsburg. This was the seventh year that eleven Contra Costa County water and
wastewater agencies combined efforts to create the Regional Excellence in Water, Wastewater and
Recycled Water Research Awards. Central San staff members helped coordinate the event and judge
the technical exhibit submissions.
Within Central San's service area, the following award winner was named:
Junior Division
Second Place
Madeline Neypes
Northcreek Academy
Project Title: Ferrofluids: A Magnetic Solution to Clean Up Oil Spills
Prize: $300
Ms. Neypes, who is in 7th grade at Northcreek Academy in Walnut Creek, will give a presentation on her
project at the meeting.
Ms. Ashley McKinley, Miss Neypes' sponsor teacher, will also receive a prize of $100.
