HR Report- First Quarter 2019 April 18, 2019 Regular Board Meeting Agenda Packet- Page 81 of 91 Page 2 of 5 ATTACHMENT 1 Board Meeting of April 18, 2019 General Manager Written Announcements PROJECT UPDATES 1) Project Bidding for Emergency Sludge Loading Facility Improvements, District Project 7348A The Emergency Sludge Loading Facility (ESLF) Improvements Project will increase the operational reliability and flexibility for emergency solids handling in the event the furnaces are unavailable. Mechanical work and significant odor control improvements and ventilation are included in the scope of the project. This project is the first construction effort as part of the Solids Handling Facilities Improvements (Solids Project). It is being constructed ahead of the larger Solids Project to ensure that Central San's emergency sludge facility is fully functional and available for use during the major overhaul and long shutdowns required to complete the furnace retrofits and replacement of major equipment, which is scheduled to begin construction June of 2020. The ESLF Improvements Project will be advertised on April 26 and May 1, 2019. Bids will be opened on May 30, 2019. The Engineer's estimate is $2,300,000. More information will be presented when the Board is asked to award the construction contract on June 20, 2019. PUBLIC OUTREACH 2) Central San Citizens Academy Final Session on April 30, 2019 On Tuesday, April 30, Central San's citizens academy, Central San Academy, will hold its final class for the spring 2019 session. Over the last five weeks, the participants have been extremely engaged with the staff, Executive and Management Team members, and Board Members. Next Tuesday, April 23, the penultimate class will be held at the Collection System Operations Facility and will cover Innovations and Applied Research, including roundtables where staff will talk about recent optimization projects at Central San. On April 30, the final class will feature presentations by General Manager Roger S. Bailey and Resource Recovery Program Manager Melody LaBella, as well as a town-hall style Q&A session with the Board Members present. The evening will conclude with a graduation ceremony for the participants, and Central San Academy alumni members have been invited to attend. To accommodate the larger group this year, the final session will be held offsite at the Soroptimist Room at Pleasant Hill Community Center at 320 Civic Drive. Additionally, the Board has requested an announcement when construction projects have been accepted, which occurs when the Notice of Completion is recorded with the County Recorder's Office. Also, the Board has requested notification of certain legal claim settlements.
