SUBJECT: RECEIVE UPDATE ON CENTRAL SAN ACADEMY SPRI NG 2019 SESSION
Central San Academy is set to launch its fourth session on March 19. Classes will be held every Tuesday
night from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at the Collection System Operations Facility in Walnut Creek for seven
consecutive weeks (except for the Facilities Tour, which will be held on various dates in the fourth week
from 9:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Treatment Plant in Martinez). To accommodate the amount of material
covered, one additional class and one additional half hour per class have been added to the curriculum this
year.
Board Members are invited to attend any or all classes, especially the first (March 19) and last (April 30) of the
series. In keeping with tradition, during the kickoff class, Board President David Williams will give a presentation
on governance of a public agency and the role of the Board. At the graduation class on April 30, Board
Members are invited to participate in a Q&A session with the participants.
Staff is pleased to report that the response this year has been overwhelming, with 50 people currently signed
up, and the Academy has reached its capacity. Any applications received are now being collected for a first-
come, first-serve waitlist. Staff looks forward to welcoming the participants and educating a new group of
members of the public on the variety of services Central San performs for the community.
Attached is a PowerPoint presentation (Attachment 1)which will be given at the Board meeting and will include
a demonstration of the new website for participants.
