PROJECT UPDATE
1) Public Bidding for Mechanical and Concrete Renovations, District Project
7351
The Mechanical and Concrete Renovations, District Project 7351 (Project), will remove
and replace multiple gates, repair and coat concrete structures, repair odor control
equipment and vessels, and replace corroded systems in the Primary Sedimentation
Tanks and other structures. The Project is aimed at addressing infrastructure needs,
existing equipment and system reliability, and improving safety in the primary process
areas of the wastewater treatment plant. Several additive items have been included for
similar facilities, including an item to replace and upgrade the flowmeter inside the
Concord Main Metering Vault (Concord Metering).
This Project will be advertised on October 8 and 15, 2018 with a bid opening scheduled
for October 30, 2018. The Engineer's estimate for construction is $9.25 million, not
including the Concord Metering. The Engineer's estimate for the Concord Metering is
$850,000, which will include reimbursement by the City of Concord. More information will
be presented when the Board is asked to approve the construction contract, tentatively
scheduled for November 15, 2018.

2) Staff to Present at American Council of Engineering Companies California
Annual Strategic Summit in Napa
Director of Engineering and Technical Services Jean-Marc Petit will be presenting at the
American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) California Annual Strategic Summit
in Napa on October 11, 2018. The ACEC California Strategic Summit program will have a
series of keynote addresses; and breakout tracks featuring capital improvement plans,
funded projects, and client panels. Mr. Petit's presentation will highlight Central San's
Strategic Plan and tools used to make it an effective utility. ACEC is covering the
conference registration and accommodation expenses.

3) Staff to Attend Strategic Leadership Meeting at the National Association of
Clean Water Agencies Conference in Chicago
Resource Recovery Program Manager Melody LaBella, in her role as Co-Chair of the
Emerging Contaminants Workgroup for the National Association of Clean Water Agencies

(NACWA), has been invited and will be attending NACWA's 2018 Fall Strategic
Leadership Meeting on October 22 and 23, 2018, in Chicago, Illinois. This meeting
provides a unique annual opportunity for NACWA's Board of Directors and standing
committee and workgroup leaders to engage in strategic discussions focused on the
future. With the theme of NACWA 2020 . . . Looking to the Future — Inside & Out,
NACWA's leaders will explore both internal organization, practices and focus and external
relationships with strategic partners, regulators and legislators.
4) Staff to Attend and Present at the International Maintenance Conference in
Bonita Springs, Florida
The following staff will be attending the 33rd International Maintenance Conference (IMC
2018) in Bonita Springs, Florida, from December 10 — 14th, 2018:
• Plant Maintenance Division Manager Neil Meyer
• Mechanical Supervisor Matthew Mahoney
• Maintenance Planner Jon Nicolaus
More than 140 professional development sessions are being offered covering all aspects
of reliability, condition monitoring, machine learning, asset management, operational
excellence, precision maintenance, human capital management and competency-based
learning. The conference includes five days of interactive learning, intensive innovation,
high-value networking, simulations and scenario-based learning, performance-enhancing
skills and emerging trends with over 200 experienced leaders share their winning ideas
for program and career success.
In addition to attending workshops, staff will be participating in the following events:
• December 10 - Water Industry Track: Neil Meyer and Matthew Mahoney will give
a presentation at this session on Central San's Reliability Journey
• December 12 - 2018 Uptime Awards* Presentation - Best Reliability
Engineering for Maintenance Program: Central San is the recipient of this award
in 2018. All three Central San attendees will give a brief presentation on the
District's Reliability Engineering and Maintenance Program.
Staff attendance at this conference is included in the Fiscal Year 2018-19 Technical
Training, Conferences and Meetings budget.
