Here's a brief list. 1. We planted several acres of cover crop this spring before the rains and much of it grew. You can see the waves of yellow to the right of the gate as you enter and down by the freeway. Jack rabbits enjoyed too much of it. We could have harvested it, but decided to let it go to seed and spread for another crop. 2. Next Friday, we are adding a new board member who has major fund-raising experience and is widely known and respected in the community. We have told him we want to raise $200,000 in the next two years and he has agreed to help. 3. We are contracting with a farmer who is graduating from UC Santa Cruz in June with a degree in Environmental Studies with a specialty in Regenerative Agriculture and teaching STEM. See attached. She has begun designing the curriculum for summer Urban Farming and STEM classes for youth. She will begin teaching around July 1. Classes will run 2 months. We hope that Central San will have provided the meter for the water by June and the Recycled Water signs for installation, so we can install some of the irrigation system and hook up as soon as Title 22 is granted. The students will be helping with creating our farm beds and plantings. 4. Students for summer classes will primarily come from the Mt. Diablo Unified School District, where we are collaborating with Cindy Gershen and her farmer. Some may receive Community College credit from DVC. 5. We are working on grant applications, one of which will go in this week with Cindy Gershen and MDUSD as a collaborator to fund our summer urban farming and STEM classes. We have several potential funders already. 6. Mt. Diablo Unified School District's Food Service Director has said that he wants to buy everything we can grow as soon as we have water connection and can start producing. That's very exciting, because that will give us some income. 7. Master Gardener and teacher Sheila Hill, Nutrition Guru, Community Activist and Teacher Cindy Gershen and Organic Farmer Shawn Seufert have agreed to join AgLantis on an Advisory Committee. 8. AgLantis is organizing a major Future of Sustainable Food System (name to be decided later) series of events in early 2019. This will include a lecture series on sustainable food and agriculture, etc. probably held at Los Medanos Community College and possibly other locations. If Central San wanted to hold an event on Sustainable Water, we could work that in. This is very much in the beginning stages of planning, but we have several models in other places to follow. This will include fun events like Food Trucks, Concerts, restaurant nights and more to foster sustainable food system and economic development focused on the Northern Waterfront (Oakley to Crocket). Supervisor Federal Glover's staff has indicated they are very excited about working on this with us. Cindy Gershen will also work on this with us. 9. We are about to submit to Contra Costa Fire for approval of our fire water tanks filled with potable water or rain water and new site plan. 10. We have an Electrical Engineer donating the work for the PG&E hook up and we are working with him and PG&E on that application. We will be connecting to the pole on Imhoff drive near the fill station, which turns out to be the only nearby pole with 3-phase power that the greenhouse needs. 11. Greenhouse construction will begin in the next 9 months. We have until mid March to spend the $50,000 the Supervisors gave us to build it, so we must be far along in construction by then. Of course, it will take years of evolution to fully equip and be the hydroponics model greenhouse we want to be. Most hydroponics greenhouse businesses start out with millions of start up funds. That's the 2018 news, off the top of my head. Thank you very much for everything you have done to help us.
