EMPLOYEE ACTIVITIES
2) Recap of Bring a Child to Work Day held April 26, 2018
Bring a Child to Work Day took place at Central San on Thursday, April 26, 2018 from
8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Bring A Child to Work Day blends experiential STEM-based
learning with fun to create an impactful day for each child that may help lead them on a
path toward a future water sector career. Approximately 80 children attended ranging in
age from 2 to 17. After being welcomed by the General Manager, children in fifth grade
and higher toured the treatment plant with our Plant Superintendent, and the younger
children in kindergarten through second grade attended a student educational program
run by the Communications Division.
Open activities for all ages took place in the Multi-Purpose Room, including GIS
(geographic information system) interactive Smart Board/Maps, Lab displays, games and
face painting. TV, Rodder, and Vactor trucks from the Collection System Operations
Division were available for the children to visit and watch demonstrations. The event also
had a photo area and field activities for all, including Buildings and Grounds flower
planting. The event concluded with lunch for the children and participants, followed by a
Board meeting.
Roughly half of the children attended the first 15 minutes of the Board meeting and several
assisted with calling the meeting to order, calling roll, and leading the pledge of
allegiance. As the first order of business, Cassidy Henry, daughter of employee Colleen
Henry, kicked off the preview of a new public service video in which she starred, "Lifecycle
of a Paint Can." The video, which highlights and encourages use of the Reuse Room
located at Central San's Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility in Martinez, can
