BAILEY, GENERAL MANAGER SUBJECT: PRESENTATION BYTHE FOLLOWING STUDENT WINNER OF THE CONTRA COSTA COUNTYSCIENCE & ENGINEERING FAIR - EXCELLENCE IN WATER, WASTEWATER AND RECYCLED WATER RESEARCH AWARD: • SRI SAI NACHURI, JUNI ORAT DOUGHERTY VALLEY HI GH SCHOOL IN SAN RAMON - SECOND PLACE, SENIOR DIVISION: "PHOTO- ASSISTED REDUCTION CATALYSISAND WASTEWATER MICROBIAL FUEL CELLS" The 2018 Contra Costa County Science and Engineering Fair took place May 16-17, 2018 at Los Medanos College in Pittsburg. This was the sixth year that eleven Contra Costa County water and wastewater agencies combined efforts to create the Regional Excellence in Water, Wastewater and Recycled Water Research Awards. Central San staff members helped coordinate the event and judge the technical exhibit submissions. Within Central San's service area, the following award winner was named: Senior Division Second Place Srisai Nachuri Dougherty Valley High School Project Title: Photo-Assisted Reduction Catalysis and Wastewater Microbial Fuel Cells Project Information: Turning wastewater into an energy source, he proved that microbial fuel cells can be a viable source of power while also reducing our carbon footprint Prize: $350 Mr. Nachuri's teacher, Alissa Dreon, also will receive a $100 prize.
