SUBJECT: ANNOUNCEMENTS - MARCH 15, 2018
PROJECT UPDATES
1) Public Bidding for North Orinda Sewer Renovations, Phase 7, District Project 8445
The North Orinda Sewer Renovations, Phase 7, is part of the ongoing Collection System Sewer
Renovation Program. This project will renovate up to 8,400 feet of sewer mains, primarily 6-inch clay
sewers, in various neighborhoods in Orinda, north of Highway 24. Construction activities will include open
trench, pipe-bursting, and other trenchless technology within public rights-of-way and easements.
This project will be advertised on March 19 and 23, 2018. Bids will be opened on April 12, 2018. The
Engineer's estimate is $3,200,000. More information will be presented when the Board is asked to award
the construction contract on May 3, 2018.
2) Public Bidding for Cured-In-Place Pipe Contract 2018-2020, District Project 8441
Cured-In-Place Pipe (CI PP) Contract 2018-2020 is part of the ongoing Collection System Sewer
Renovation Program. This contract will provide the Collection System Operations department with a cost
effective and expedient method to get critical sewers repaired or replaced by Cl PP methods over the next
two years. Construction activities will take place in easements and low traffic residential areas and involve
the lining of up to 3,500 feet of main sewers and reinstating laterals.
This project will be advertised on April 16, 2018 and April 23, 2018. Bids will be opened on May 2, 2018.
The contract amount is estimated to be $400,000. More information will be presented when the Board is
asked to award the construction contract on June 7, 2018.
3) Public Bidding for Solids Conditioning Building Roof Replacement, District Project 7359
The Solids Conditioning Building (SCB)was constructed in the mid-1970s. I n recent years the roof
condition has steadily degraded with several roof leaks, the most significant of which is located above the
cogeneration unit. This project will replace the existing built-up tar and gravel system with a similar roofing
system, new drains and piping for poor drainage locations, and flashing or sheet metal improvements.

The SCB is regularly accessed by staff for emissions monitoring and maintenance work. Included in this
project is the installation of an engineered fall protection system that will allow personnel working near the
roof edge to securely tie-off as required for safety.
This project will be advertised in early April 2018. Bids will be opened in May 2018. The construction cost
is estimated at$975,000. More information will be presented when the Board is asked to award the
construction contract in June 2018.
PUBLIC OUTREACH
4) Central San Citizens Academy - Spring 2018 Session Begins
Central San Academy is set to launch its third session on March 27. Classes will be held every Tuesday
night from 6:00-8:30 p.m. for six consecutive weeks (except for the Facilities Tour in the fourth week, from
9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.). Board Members are invited to attend any or all classes, and particularly the first
and last of the series. At the first class on March 27, General Manager Roger S. Bailey will provide an
introduction to wastewater, and Board President Nejedly will discuss the governance of a public agency. At
the graduation ceremony on May 1, Board Members will be invited to participate in a Q&A session.
Applications are available online at centralsan.org/academy and are being accepted until March 16. Staff
looks forward to welcoming the participants and educating a new group of members of the public on the
variety of services Central San performs for the community.
