MEMOR&'DUM FOR: THE HONORABLE MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
VIA: G. A. Horstkotte, Jr., General Manager -Chief Engineer
SUBJECT: Damage claim for Mrs. Donald M. Hester in the amount of $315.50
3449 Solana Court
Lafayette, California 94549
1. PROBLEM: Sewage overflow in residence
2. BACKGROUND: On Tuesday, December 5, 1972, the District on call crew
received a call to relieve a manhole overflowing at 3442 Solana Court,
Lafayette. Upon arrival the crew found the 6" line A plugged 290' up-
stream from HH2 toward MH4. The stoppage consisted of roots and was
cleared with no difficulty.
On December 7, 1972, the District received a call
from Mrs. Heater at 3449 Solana Court regarding an overflow at her
house. After an investigation, it turned out to be that the incident
must have happened on Tuesday, December 5, while the people were away
for a few days. The District crew cleaned and disinfected throughout
the house.
3. RECOMM&ADATION, This claim, which is due to sewage backup, comes
to a total of $315.50 which includes the cleaning of rugs of several
dimensions, the sanding of two bedroom hardwood floors and, replacement
of several small items.
I feel the claim is reasonable for this type of
overflow and I recommend that it be paid. (An overflow device has been
installed.)
