Staff from the Collection System Operations (CSO) Division responded immediately and redirected flows and secured the sinkhole location - no bypassing was required. After investigation by both CSO and Engineering staff, it was determined that the sinkhole likely was due to a localized failure of the 27-inch sewer and possibly the connection to a junction structure. The sinkhole is located in a parking lot used for additional parking for the ball fields for the College. Because time is of the essence, Engineering has directed Cratus Inc., contractor for the Walnut Creek Phase 11 project, to perform the repairs. The contractor has mobilized its forces and commenced the repair work this week. Costs are anticipated to reach up to $80,000 and will be paid for under a change order with the contractor.
