PUBLIC OUTREACH h) Central San Citizens Academy is Underway This past Tuesday, April 4, Central San's citizens academy, Central San Academy, began its second "semester" with 34 attendees at its first class. In addition to the 34 who attended the opening session, there were 3 applicants who could not make the first session but planned to attend all others. This total represents quite an increase from last year's 23 participants. The participants come from a variety of backgrounds and represent a wide range of the type of customers served by Central San. They were joined Board President Causey, Board Member McGill, Board Member Pilecki, and members of the District's Executive and Management Teams. Under the tutelage of President Causey, General Manager Roger S. Bailey, Senior Administrative Technician Christina Gee, and Secretary of the District Elaine Boehme, the students learned about the governance of a public agency and received a primer on Central San and wastewater. They also received a handout about Central San's District Counsel, who will be attending the May 9 session. Feedback from the participants has Additional Written Announcements April 6, 2017 Page 2 of 2 been enthusiastically positive and astute, and it was clear during the class that the participants will be inquisitive and engaged, with a plethora of exciting ideas and passion for what the District accomplishes for the community. Following six weeks of classes every Tuesday, the graduation ceremony will take place on May 9. Board Members are welcome to attend any or all sessions. It is staff's hope that the Academy will continue to educate its customers about Central San's core services, make meaningful connections with its community members, and arm the participants with the knowledge to be advocates for Central San. More information on the program is available on the District's website at http://centralsan.org/academy.
