HomeMy WebLinkAbout13.a.1) General Manager Written Announcements 13.a. 1 ) Board Meeting of October 6, 2016 Written Announcements: PROJECT UPDATE a) District-Wide Nondestructive Potholing--of Underground Utilities,, Contract No. 2016-01 The Capital Projects Division employs potholing to expose underground utilities along the proposed sewer alignments at points of potential conflicts. The results are used to evaluate alternatives during design and to minimize change orders during construction. This District-Wide Nondestructive Potholing of Underground Utilities contract will be advertised on October 12 and October 17, 2016. Bids will be opened on October 25, 2016. The cost is currently estimated at $150,000 per year for up to three years, totaling $450,000, and will be paid under sewer renovation or other capital improvement projects. More information will be presented when the Board is asked to approve the contract on November 17, 2016. HUMAN RESOURCES b) Temporary Hiring Back of Retired Employee to Provide-Training The District will be temporarily hiring a former employee, Mr. Phillip Notarmaso, in an assignment not to exceed a maximum of 120 hours. Mr. Notarmaso was employed at the District as a Vehicle and Equipment Service worker and retired effective February 18, 2016. During his employment with the District, Mr. Notarmaso was responsible for training employees on a component of the Class A Driver's License test which is requirement for many employees within the District. Mr. Notarmaso will be providing this training to current employees so that they can then train future employees. The District has determined that engaging Mr. Notarmaso for this temporary assignment would be the most cost-effective way for the District to accomplish this task. Pursuant to Section 7522.56 of the California Government Code and Board Policy No. BP 003 — Hiring of District Retirees, the District may hire a District retiree if he or she possesses a skill set needed to perform specialized work of a limited duration subject to the following conditions: • The retiree cannot work more than 960 hours per fiscal year. • The retiree's hourly rate of pay cannot be less than the minimum or exceed the maximum of the published salary range for the job classification for which they are hired. • The retiree will receive no service credit or retirement rights for the temporary assignment. Written Announcements October 6, 2016 Page 2 of 2 ■ If the retiree received any unemployment insurance compensation in the 12 months preceding the appointment, he or she is ineligible to be reemployed by the District. ■ The retiree must wait 180 days following the effective date of retirement. The District has determined that Mr. Notarmaso's assignment meets all of the abovementioned conditions.
