SUBJECT: BART NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE
This memo is to provide information to the Administration Committee on the results of
recent negotiations at Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART).
On Thursday, May 12, 2016, the BART Board of Directors ratified agreements with
three unions to extend their contracts for four years. Terms of the agreement are as
follows:
✓ Contract Length: 2017 - 2021
✓ Salary increase of 10.5% over 4 years: 2.5%, 2.5%, 2.75%, 2.75%
✓ Pension: The agreement allows BART and its unions to address the topic when
there is more clarity on the issue. Currently, there is litigation pending on the
California Public Employees' Pension Reform Act (PEPRA) between the State
and U.S. Department of Labor, and both sides agreed to discuss pensions at a
later point.
✓ The remaining terms of the existing agreement will remain the same.
I will be available at the Committee meeting to answer any questions.
