ISSUE: Board of Directors' approval is required to reclassify positions.
BACKGROUND: After several recent changes, the Finance Division has reevaluated
its staffing structure and has determined that it would more effectively staffed by
separating the budgeting and financial planning tasks from the day-to-day supervision of
accounting and financial reporting.
The current Finance Administrator incumbent would assume responsibility for budgeting
and financial planning, and the current Senior Accountant incumbent would be
reclassified to Finance Administrator and would be responsible for managing the day-to-
day accounting and financial reporting duties. The current Finance Administrator job
description is being revised to emphasize the difference in the two roles under the same
classification.
ALTERNATIVES/CONSIDERATIONS: Do not approve reclassification. If this action is
not approved, the Finance Division will not be effectively staffed.
FINANCIAL IMPACTS: This action will result in an annual cost of $23,671 at the
maximum steps of the salary ranges. This cost includes all benefits associated with a
regular, full-time position.
COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION: This matter was reviewed by the Administration
Committee on May 9, 2016. The Committee recommended / did not recommend Board
approval.
RECOMMENDED BOARD ACTION: Reclassify one Senior Accountant position (S-70,
$92,115 - $111,554) to a Finance Administrator position (S-78, $111,554 - $135,225).
