Bring a Child to Work day took place at the District on Friday, April 1, 2016 from 8:30 a.m.
to 1:00 p.m. The 41 children who attended ranged in age from 3 to 17. After the
welcome by committee members and the General Manager, and a discussion session
involving the children, the group went out to the Imhoff Drive Plant Operations Division
parking lot area to participate in the planting of a new tree where a dead tree had been
removed. The older children then toured the plant while the younger children rotated
through activity stations in the Multi -Purpose Room that included laboratory testing,
plastic hard hat decorating, water awareness coloring books provided by the American
Water Works Association, and the day culminated with field activities for all. Six
Collection Systems crew members were also on hand to demonstrate the TV and Vactor
trucks. All children were given the opportunity to visit work areas, the EAO (Employee
Activity Organization) Bake Sale, and a photo booth that was set up for the day. The
event concluded with lunch for the children and all participants, a raffle of donated prices,
and an introduction of the committee who organized the event. Initial feedback of the
event was positive and employees seemed very grateful that the District sponsors this
event.

PUBLIC OUTREACH
Central San Citizens Academy is Underway
This past Tuesday, April 5, the Citizens Academy pilot project launched its first
semester. Central San Academy, as it is colloquially known, welcomed 23 members of
the public to Central San. They were joined by President Tad Pilecki, President Pro Tem
Paul Causey, and Board Members Mike McGill and Dave Williams, as well as members
of the District's Executive and Management Teams.
Under the tutelage of President Pilecki, General Manager Roger S. Bailey, Senior
Administrative Technician Christina Gee, Secretary of the District Elaine Boehme, and
District Counsel Kent Alm, the students learned about the governance of a public agency
and received a primer on Central San and wastewater. Feedback from the participants
and staff who attended has been enthusiastically positive, and it was clear during the
class that the participants will be an inquisitive and engaged group, with a myriad of
exciting ideas and passion for what the District accomplishes for the community.
