(Aanotou4 Bring a Child to Work day took place at the District on Friday, April 1, 2016 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The 41 children who attended ranged in age from 3 to 17. After the welcome by committee members and the General Manager, and a discussion session involving the children, the group went out to the Imhoff Drive Plant Operations Division parking lot area to participate in the planting of a new tree where a dead tree had been removed. The older children then toured the plant while the younger children rotated through activity stations in the Multi -Purpose Room that included laboratory testing, plastic hard hat decorating, water awareness coloring books provided by the American Water Works Association, and the day culminated with field activities for all. Six Collection Systems crew members were also on hand to demonstrate the TV and Vactor trucks. All children were given the opportunity to visit work areas, the EAO (Employee Activity Organization) Bake Sale, and a photo booth that was set up for the day. The event concluded with lunch for the children and all participants, a raffle of donated prices, and an introduction of the committee who organized the event. Initial feedback of the event was positive and employees seemed very grateful that the District sponsors this event. g) PUBLIC OUTREACH Central San Citizens Academy is Underway This past Tuesday, April 5, the Citizens Academy pilot project launched its first semester. Central San Academy, as it is colloquially known, welcomed 23 members of the public to Central San. They were joined by President Tad Pilecki, President Pro Tem Paul Causey, and Board Members Mike McGill and Dave Williams, as well as members of the District's Executive and Management Teams. Under the tutelage of President Pilecki, General Manager Roger S. Bailey, Senior Administrative Technician Christina Gee, Secretary of the District Elaine Boehme, and District Counsel Kent Alm, the students learned about the governance of a public agency and received a primer on Central San and wastewater. Feedback from the participants and staff who attended has been enthusiastically positive, and it was clear during the class that the participants will be an inquisitive and engaged group, with a myriad of exciting ideas and passion for what the District accomplishes for the community. Additional Written Announcements April 7, 2016 Page 2 of 2 Following six weeks of classes, the graduation ceremony will take place on May 10. Board Members are invited to attend any or all sessions. It is staff's hope that the Academy will empower its participants to make a difference in their local government, make meaningful connections with each other and with Central San representatives, and become armed with the knowledge to be more informed, active members of their community. More information on the program is available on the District's website at http://centralsan.ora/academv. HUMAN RESOURCES h) First Graduation Class from the District's Inauaural Supervisory Academy. On September 17, 2015, on the heels of the Management Leadership Academy, Central San launched its first Supervisory Academy, designed to give employees in supervisory and non -supervisory roles the leadership skills to ascend in the organization. Tomorrow, on April 8 in the Multi -Purpose Room, 24 participants will graduate from the program. The Board is invited to attend the ceremony, which begins at 10:30 a.m.
