HomeMy WebLinkAbout06.a.5) General Manager AnnouncementsBoard Meeting of March 3. 2016 Written Announcements: PROJECT UPDATES a) Public Bidding for the Laboratory HVAC Upgrade and Repair Project, District Project 7319 The Laboratory cooling system has been operating on a temporary chiller system due to a major compressor failure. This project will install a new chiller, upgrade the building air handling system, and include modifications to the system in order to provide optimal cooling and chiller controls. This project is scheduled to be publicly advertised on February 29 and March 7, 2016. Bids are scheduled to be opened on March 22, 2016. The Engineer's estimate is currently at $575,000. b) Public Bidding for the Headauarters Office Building (HOB) Improvements (Garden Level), District Proiect 8234 The current phase of the HOB Improvements project, District Project 8234, will include remodeling of the garden level to provide adequate space for the recently staffed IT Division. This project will expand the floor plan by converting the basement vehicle entrance to office space. The project will be advertised on March 9 and 14, 2016 with bids opened on March 31, 2016. The Engineer's estimate for the construction work is $400,000. c) Public Bidding for the Pump and Blower Building Seismic UP,grades, District Project 7291 The Pump and Blower Building (P&BB) is a critical facility within the wastewater treatment plant that contains the aeration blowers, primary and final effluent pumping, and service air system. This project proposes to make seismic improvements to the P&BB including the adjacent Machine Shop. Construction work will generally include seismic improvements to the exterior concrete walls and other building modifications including minor relocation of existing mechanical and electrical infrastructure. The project will be publicly advertised on March 10 and 16, 2016. Bids are scheduled to be opened on April 6, 2016. The Engineer's estimate for the construction work is $3,250,000. Written Announcements March 3, 2016 Page 2 of 3 d) Public Bidding for the Television Inspection of Sanitary Sewers The Capital Projects Division employs television inspection to determine the condition of the existing pipe, location of laterals, and verify record information. The results are used to evaluate alternatives during design and to minimize change orders during construction. This project will be advertised on March 11 and 16, 2016. Bids will be opened on March 23, 2016. The total cost of the project is estimated at $150,000 over three years. More information will be presented when the Board is asked to approve the contract on April 21, 2016. AWARD OF CONTRACT e) Contract Awarded for the Recycled Water (REW) Commercial Truck Fill Station, District Project 7347 Nine bids were received for the REW Commercial Truck Fill Station, District Project 7347, for the installation of a recycled water commercial truck fill station at the District's Kiewit property (located south of 5501 Imhoff Dr. Martinez, CA 94553). The REW fill station will provide FREE recycled water for commercial users as a pilot program. A contract has been awarded to Pacific Underground Services for $72,420, the lowest responsive and responsible bidder. The General Manager will execute the contract documents subject to submittal requirements. UPCOMING SEWER SUMMIT f) District to Host Sewer Summits on March 24 and April 26, 2016 for Local Municipalities The Planning and Development Services Division will be hosting a Sewer Summit for all the municipalities that it services on March 24, 2016 in the Multipurpose Room. The Summit will be held from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm with an optional treatment plan tour at the end of the day. This year's Summit will focus on the District's role in the Development Process with an emphasis on commercial development and capacity fees. Invitations were sent to all cities within the District's jurisdiction, Contra Costa County and commercial realtors. The Summit will be repeated on April 26, 2016 to allow more staff from invited agencies the opportunity to participate. Written Announcements March 3, 2016 Page 3 of 3 g) OUT-OF-STATE CONFERENCE ATTENDANCE Amy Hernandez to Attend 2016 North American Society for Trenchless Technology (NASTT) Conference in Dallas, March 20- 23, 2016 The North American Society for Trenchless Technology (NASTT) will host their annual No -Dig Conference in Dallas, Texas, Monday, March 21, through Wednesday, March 23, 2016. Senior Engineering Assistant Amy Hernandez was awarded the NASTT's 2016 Conference Municipal and Public Utility Scholarship, which will pay for full registration and hotel accommodations. NASTT is the premier trenchless conference and equipment show in the United States and provides an opportunity to learn about the latest developments in the area of trenchless pipeline installation. Trenchless construction methods are less disruptive to the public, very cost effective, and are used extensively in pipeline rehabilitation. Staff attendance at this conference is included in the 2015-16 Budget.
