HomeMy WebLinkAbout06.a.3) General Manager AnnouncementsBoard Meeting of December 17, 2015 Written Announcements: INTERAGENCY EVENT a) Second Annual BAYWORK "Training Buffet" held November 17, 2015 Another Big Success BAYWORK, a consortium of water and wastewater agencies that specializes in conducting research, workshops, and various product and workforce development activities related to the industry, held its second annual "BAYWORK Training Buffet." on November 17, 2015. Over 100 water and wastewater professionals from 25 Bay Area agencies participated in the event, which featured 14 different sessions taught by industry professionals from eight agencies in the Bay Area, including Central San, San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, Dublin San Ramon, Sacramento Municipal Utility District, EBMUD, Oro Loma Sanitary District, Santa Clara Valley Water District, and the Cities of Pittsburg and San Jose. Additionally, a representative from the State Water Resources Control Board hosted an open forum on Drinking Water and Wastewater Operator Certification Programs. A variety of classes on topics such as water and wastewater regulations and compliance, succession planning, technical training, safety and risk management/mitigation, and much more were offered exclusively to all water and wastewater employees for free, on a first - come- first - served basis. Ten employees from Central San participated in the event, including Human Resources Manager Teji O'Malley, who provided an overview of Recruitment and Selection, Performance Management, and Labor /Employee Relations within the public sector and unionized environments; Media Production Technician Joe Zumbo, who videotaped the sessions for posting to the BAYWORK website; and Public Information and Production Assistant Kit Ohlman, who provided photography services. Participants were allowed the flexibility of selecting from one to four classes, whatever best fit their interests and schedules. A total of 125 participants took 280 classes. Many expressed appreciation for the ability to take classes of their choice, as well as the quality of information presented from knowledgeable instructors. RECYCLED WATER b) Reduced Hours at Residential Recycled Water Fill Station Due to lower customer demand, the Residential Recycled Water Fill Station has begun operating on winter hours as follows: Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Station is closed on Sundays and District holidays. All temporary staff for the station have been released and the Fill Station is being overseen by staff from the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility. Written Announcements December 17, 2015 Page 2 of 2 DISTRICT TRAINING c) Project Management BootCamp held December 7 -8, 2015 On December 7 and 8, 2015, consultant PSMJ conducted a two -day in -house seminar entitled "Project Management BootCamp" in the Multi- Purpose Room. Attendees included 32 employees from the Engineering Department, as well as representatives from several other divisions, including Information Technology and Operations. Best practices in project management from the public sector perspective were presented and discussed and the training included active participations in small workgroups to implement lessons learned during the training. Several of the new techniques that were learned will be implemented.
