RECYCLED WATER
a) Recent Sanitary Sewer Overflow in Rossmoor
On Wednesday, November 11, 2015 (Veteran's Day), the District's Collection System
Operations (CSO) received a call at 9:02 a.m. from the On -call Dispatch Services of a
potential overflow occurring at Rossmoor in Walnut Creek. The on -call crew was
dispatched and cleared the stoppage at 9:55 a.m. An investigation was performed to
determine the start time and duration of the overflow. During the investigation, it was
determined that the homeowner first noticed the overflow at 7:00 a.m. The volume was
then calculated using a duration of 175 minutes and a flowrate of 75 gallons per minute,
for a total volume of 13,125 gallons.
The sewer is a 6 -inch diameter vitrified -clay line that was installed in 1963 and is located
in an easement. The overflow reached a storm drain system that ultimately flowed into
Tice Creek. CSO crews flushed and cleaned the creek per the District's standard
practice. Notifications were made to the California Office of Emergency Services and the
County Department of Public Health. California River Watch was notified of the overflow
and made aware that their samples for CAM -17 testing could be picked up at the District's
Laboratory. Additionally, a Biologist was dispatched to the site on Friday, November 13,
2015, and approved the cleanup operations of Tice Creek.
