ISSUE: In accordance with the District's Travel Policy BP 008, he Board must approve
Board Members' proposed attendance at conferences in advance for each year.
BACKGROUND: At its meeting on November 20, 2008, the Board voted to amend the
District's Travel Policy to state that Board Member conference attendance will be
approved by the Board on a yearly basis in advance to ensure transparency.
The attached list represents proposed attendances at various industry- related conferences
throughout the upcoming calendar year.
In the event that a Board Member wishes to attend a conference other than as shown
on Attachment A, separate Board approval will be required. The conference
attendance being approved today is only for planning purposes and does not represent
a commitment that a Board Member will attend.
ALTERNATIVES /CONSIDERATIONS: The Board may deny the approval of the
conference attendance or provide other direction to staff.
FINANCIAL IMPACTS: The amount of $50,000 for Board Member conference attendance
was included in the Fiscal Year 2015 -16 Operations and Maintenance Budget.
COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION: The Administration Committee reviewed the
conference attendance at its meeting of October 26, 2015 and recommended approval.
RECOMMENDED BOARD ACTION: Approve proposed conference attendance for
Board Members for calendar year 2016 as shown on Attachment A (for purposes of this
action, attendance listed as "Maybe" will be considered approved by the Board).
