HomeMy WebLinkAbout06.a.1) General Manager Announcements6-a-1 0 Board Meeting of May 7, 2015 Written Announcements: PROJECT UPDATES a) Public Bidding for Martinez Sewer Renovations, Phase 4, District Proiect 8415 The Martinez Sewer Renovations, Phase 4, project is part of the ongoing Collection System Renovation Program. The project will renovate approximately 8,500 linear feet of old sewer mains within public rights -of -way, easements, and near creeks by using pipe - burst, open- trench, and other trenchless technologies. This project will be advertised for bid in late May 2015. Bids will be opened early June 2015. The construction cost is currently estimated at $2,750,000. More information will be presented when the Board is asked to award the construction contract by early July 2015. TREATMENT PLANT b) Natural Gas Pre - Purchase for 2016 On March 20, 2014 the Board authorized the General Manager to pre - purchase natural gas (NG) through 2016 with a $6 per MMBtu limit. Energy prices have remained low and staff has pre - purchased the third and final pre - purchase of 333 MMBtu per day of NG at $3.47 per MMBtu. This concludes the District's normal natural gas pre - purchase amount for 2016. The average cost for pre - purchased natural gas for 2016 will be $3.86 per MMBtu for 1000 MMBtu per day, which is 20% below the pre - purchased NG for 2015. EMPLOYEE ACTIVITIES c) Brinq A Child to Work Day on April 24, 2015 Was an Educational and Fun Experience for All Participants Bring a Child to Work Day took place at the District on Friday, April 24th from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The 45 "Environmental Super Heroes" who attended ranged in age from 4 to 18. The older children toured the plant and worked on Geographic Data Integration (GDI) software while the younger children rotated through activity stations in the Multipurpose Room that included a laboratory with Ph testing, household hazardous waste educational station, pollution prevention workbook, identifying good and bad bugs, and culminated with field activities for all. Two Collection Systems crew members were on hand to demonstrate the TV and Vactor trucks while the Grease Monster photo opportunity delighted everyone. The events "rapped up" with a couple of talented co -ops sharing lyrics and a rendition of the day's student learning outcomes. A dedicated crew of District volunteers made this an educational and fun - filled day for everyone who participated. Written Announcements May 7, 2015 Page 2 of 2 d) Bike to Work Day Scheduled for May 14, 2015 Thursday, May 14, 2015, is Bike to Work Day. The District will once again be sponsoring onsite 1 of the 120 energizer stations that will be set up throughout several counties including Contra Costa, Alameda, San Francisco, and Santa Clara. Other sponsors include BART, Bay Area Air Quality Management District, Kaiser Permanente, City of Fremont, City of Hayward, City of Oakland, Metropolitan Transportation Commission, KPIX 5, and a host of other agencies. The event includes fun rides, event challenges, raffle prizes, and other giveaways. Assistant Engineer Chathu Abeyrathna will be coordinating the District's participation in the event. For more information, visit 511 ContraCosta.Org or BikeEastBay.Org /BTWD. e) Annual Employee Appreciation Picnic Scheduled for July 15, 2015 The Annual Employee Appreciation Picnic is scheduled for Wednesday, July 15th from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in "Flushing Meadow" (the garden /lawn area next to the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility). Grill Master Chefs -at -large will command the event serving burgers and dogs with all the fixings. The menu includes salads, chips, dessert and drinks. All Board Members, current employees, summer students, temps and co -ops are invited to attend. The event is not open to family members or retirees.
