ISSUE: Specific approval by the Board of Directors is required for travel that is
out of state and has not been specifically budgeted.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve attendance of Chemist I Chris Doornbos at the Agilent
Technologies' Gas Chromatography /Mass Spectrometry (GC /MS) Maintenance and
Troubleshooting Training in Alpharetta, Georgia, on May 27 through May 29, 2015.
FINANCIAL IMPACTS: The approximate cost to attend the conference is $3,118
(includes travel, hotel, meal allowance, and registration costs).
ALTERNATIVES /CONSIDERATIONS: The Board may deny the approval to attend the
conference.
BACKGROUND: The District purchased a new Agilent GC /MS in January 2015.
Monies appropriated for this equipment remain in the FY 2014 -2015 budget and
maintenance training has been identified as essential. The training requested will give
Chemist I Chris Doornbos (principal analyst for Semi -VOA) hands -on experience with
maintenance and troubleshooting for the Agilent 789013/5977 Gas
Chromatography /Mass Selective Detector (GC /MSD). Mr. Doornbos will learn about
diagnostics and tools, routine GC, vacuum system, ion source, quadrupole and detector
maintenance, and troubleshooting procedures for instruments that are not performing.
This training will allow the District to operate and maintain the instrument without the
expense of an annual service contract.
RECOMMENDED BOARD ACTION: Approve attendance of Chemist I Chris Doornbos
at the Agilent Technologies' GC /MS Maintenance and Troubleshooting Training in
Alpharetta, Georgia, on May 27 through May 29, 2015.
