INTERAGENCY EVENT b) BAYWORK "Training Buffet" Held November 19, 2014 Another Big Success BAYWORK, a consortium of water and wastewater agencies that specializes in conducting research, workshops, and various product and workforce development activities related to the industry, held its second event of this fiscal year on November 19, 2014 called the "BAYWORK Training Buffet." Over 100 water and wastewater professionals from 24 Bay Area agencies participated in the event, which featured 11 classes taught by nine industry professionals from eight agencies in the Bay Area, including Central San, Oro Loma Sanitary district, San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, EBMUD, Contra Costa Water District, and the Cities of Pittsburg, Emeryville and San Jose. A variety of classes on topics such as workers' compensation, Myers- Briggs personality assessment, customized technical training, water and wastewater regulations, succession planning, safety and stress management in the workplace, and much more were offered exclusively to all water and wastewater employees for free, on a first- come - first - served basis. Eleven employees from Central San participated in the event, including Safety and Risk Management Administrator Shari Deutsch, who provided training on workers' compensation; Plant Operations Superintendent Doug Little, who helped plan the event; and Media Production Technician Joe Zumbo, who videotaped the sessions for posting to the BAYWORK website. Participants were allowed the flexibility to select from one to four classes, whatever best fit their interests and schedules. A total of 118 participants took 229 classes, an average of two per person. Many expressed appreciation for the ability to take classes of their choice, as well as the quality of information presented from knowledgeable instructors. Written Announcements December 18, 2014 Page 2 of 2 Both the BAYWORK Training Buffet and the BAYWORK Workshop on Wheels bus tour of various facilities held in October 2014 have been well received by the participating agencies. The next BAYWORK event for this fiscal year is scheduled for February 2015 — a workshop on Strategic Investments in Staff Knowledge — to be held at the Santa Clara Valley Water District. A recent email from Cheryl Davis thanking Central San for its contributions to the program is attached. Your agency was a major contributor to the East Bay II Workshop on Wheels, as well as the BAYWORK Training Buffet held at EBMUD on November 19th. For the BAYWORK Training Buffet, Shari Deutsch provided an excellent training session (which I attended) on workers' compensation. Doug Little helped plan this complex event, and then performed faithfully in the critical task of directing parking at the EBMUD site (in the rain), and Joe Zumbo videoed the training sessions (for posting to our website). Teji O'Malley is continuing to provide support as we begin planning for a workshop on Strategic Investments in Staff Knowledge, which we will hold at SCVWD in February. During your time at CCCSD, your agency has become a strong contributor to our efforts, and we really appreciate it.
