BAILEY, GENERAL MANAGER DAVID HEATH, DIRECTOR OF ADMINISTRA ION 69- FROM: TEJI O'MALLEY, HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGER SUBJECT: DISTRICT EMPLOYEE TURNOVER RATE During the September 11, 2014 Administration Committee, staff was directed to determine the District's employee turnover rate and the reason for the separation. Turnover rate is defined as the ratio of total separations to the average number of employees in an evaluation period. The District's annual employee turnover rate, for the time period 2008 -2014, for each calendar year is outlined the table below: Calendar Year Turnover Rate 2008 5.3% 2009 4.1% 2010 10.0% 2011 8.1% 2012 12.0% 2013 2.8% 2014 5.0% The table below reflects the reasons for employee separations during the period between January 1, 2008 through October 31, 2014: Reason for Separation Number of Employees % of Separations Turnover Rate for entire evaluation period by reason Retirement 90 75% 35.2% Shorter Commute 2 2% 0.7% Deceased 3 2.5% 1.2% Disability Retirement 5 4% 1.9% Involuntary Termination 5 4% 1.9% New Employment Opportunity 5 4% 1.9% Desire for Intermittent Schedule 1 1% 0.3% No longer working 1 1% 0.3% Unknown /Not Shared /Personal 8 7% 3.1% Staff will be available to answer any questions or provide clarification during the meeting.
