HomeMy WebLinkAbout05.d.1) (Handout) Member Causey's Notes on NACWA Conferencerlrzd.�7 NACWA Board Report - July 17, 2014 General Observations and Comments • Collaboration, partnerships, resiliency, innovation, community communications and buy -in to focus on the great things that industry accomplishes • Partnerships especially with non - conventional partners • partnerships with local graduate student research programs • Green Infrastructure • Nutrients — leave this to Dave Williams • Innovation - can be done everywhere and on anything • Triple bottom line processes raised several times regarding evaluations of needs - much more meaningful to community and customers • search for new and unusual revenues sources • Programs priority based upon what is best for customers and the community not just risk, etc. • what is the value of the utility to the community? define and promote concept • lots of revisions to discharge parameters being reviewed and evaluated - using permits to implement not thru normal rule making processes • Water quality criteria for viruses and bacteriophage due Spring 2015 • Funds available - Farm bill and US Dept of Energy • NACWA Energy workgroup being established looking for members • Publications discussed • EPA: Moving Toward Sustainability: Sustainable and Effective Practices for Creating Your Water Utility Roadmap • WEF: Energy Road Map • NACWA: Todays Clean Water Utility: Delivering Value to Ratepayers, Communities and the Nation • WOTUS - comments due by Oct 20th - are we engaged in this evaluation? WE NEED A NEW DISTRICT NAME to reflect changing nature -of out business and the industry - GM CEO not GM • Logic can take you from A to B; Imagination will take you everywhere - Einstein
